I have a d600 that i purchased on ebay from an individual that just wanted to get rid of it because he was moving to a mirrorless camera. The seller had the shutter replaced for what ever reason and now it has an upgraded sensor, the same one that is in the d610. Its not working properly for and is in need of repair. Is there any camera stores in the north carolina area that will repair this body for me even though i did not buy it from an authorized dealer? And if so what is the turn around for repairs? thanks..

The D600 and D610 ALWAYS had the same sensor, the ONLY difference between them was the shutter. Depending on what is wrong with the camera, Nikon will repair it, and repairs to the shutter are free for perpetuity.
If an unauthorized repair center gets inside the camera that could void the Nikon forever warranty on that shutter.

The D600 was virtually a nightmare for Nikon. It was replaced by the D610. I met one person who actually had a working D600, and didn't take advantage of the replacement offer. I hope you didn't buy a gray market version of this camera. Also, you didn't say what city you're in, wanting to know a repair facility in North Carolina?

I would contact Nikon Repair in New York. Give them the serial number and tell them the problem. With Hurricane Matthew passing into your State, camera repairs, especially at authorized Nikon Repair Shops, could have a backlog longer than Nikon in New York.

I don't know if this was stressed enough. Send it ONLY to Nikon in New York. Get their 800 number on the website and call first. Assuming it's a legal camera and not grey market, they will likely fix it free. By the way , I have a D600 that never had a problem. Nikon replaced the shutter anyway and I've had no issues since. I do real estate photography, so it gets a workout as often as possible. I love the camera. Shame it got such a bad rep from the shutter issue.

KEH is a great place to get items repaired since I teach photo at a HS needed a place that could fix many different problems quickly and not break the bank. I believe they will give you a flat rate price on repair.

I would check with Nikon first. If they replaced the shutter in the beginning, it may still be under warranty from them and they may fix t at no cost; otherwise, if it is a USA camera and they did the work on it the first time, they should fix it for a fee. Either way, you are better off having Nikon fix it; any secondary repair place is a crap shoot.

Mcraven,

Contact Nikon they will more than likely take care of you. If the cost of the repair is more than the camera's worth then I would contact KEH and work something out with them.

I'm assuming your not a member of NPS, if you were and the D600 is register they will fix the came at 20% off and expedite the repair.

Nikon can be a pain to deal with, especially if you are trying to get information from them while the repair is taking place. Get their estimate before approving the repair so you you don't get into a price you do not want to pay. Like I said, they can be a pain to deal with, but they will fix the camera.

Send it to Nikon in New York, I use Nikon in the Las Angeles area because I live within their territory, they do wonderful work though it may be gone a bit longer than you wish the camera always comes back in way better shape than it left, they clean and check the camera and apply the newest software update for free while its there. I just sent my D800 to Mack warranty as I have a long warranty on it with them and they sent it to Nikon for the repairs, even though they have their own repair center. You can also buy into a warranty program through them or any other of the many insurance companies an others like Mack, I got the mack because I bought through KEH.

thanks for the responses friends..much appreciated..i called nikon and got an estimated $250.00 for repairs and software updates. i love the d600 and it has a new shutter so it would be cheaper than buying another even used. i also have a d7000 which is an awesome body that i can use while the d600 is being repaired. thanks for the options. i think i can narrow it down as to what i want to do..
