Anyone ever used this lens. Super cheap. $165.00 on Amazon. Sigma 28-200 f/3.5-5.6 Compact Hyper Zoom Aspherical Lens for Nikon SLR Cameras. I suspect it is not auto-focus. Wonder why it is so cheap?
I have this lens...Have not used it since going digital...
I used it on my nikon N70 (film)...It does NOT have a focus
motor so it relies on the motor in the camera....So if you
have a body w/o the motor you will have to manual focus..
I was just starting out in photography so I had no good glass
to compare it to......But, as they say,...."You get what you pay
for"...
my .02 for what it is worth,
My d50 has the focus motor built into the body.knock all purpose lens, worth a try.
I really disliked the 18-200 Nikon, too distorted at both ends, poorly made feel, just wasn't me.
Many people do like it, but it has visible defects in almost every picture, really bad wide and pretty noticeable far.
The 55-200 is nothing like it, looks good everywhere in my opinion.
The Sigma 28-200 is far better, just doesn't have VR.
This was the subject of a post of mine around here somewhere concerning
the fact that you don't need waaaay expensive gear to take great pictures.
The true value of a lens is the picture it takes not the price.
Cheap is an unfortunate word anyway as it implies poor quality.
Could it be that the big companies glass is way over priced thus creating
the illusion one must pay this much for good?
Went to my local National Camera store and tried a Sigma 28-200 non VR and a Tamron 28-200 non VR lens. Ended up buying the Tamron 28-200. It was much sharper than the Sigma. I'm satisfied. No more lens switching for a while. Thanks for all the comments to this thread.
Well you just go take some nice pictures with it.... that's all you want.
Good luck!
