How would you hide camera gear in a Grand Cherokee?

I'd like to take the Jeep on a trip, but if we were to take a hike and not take all the camera gear, just how do you secure valuable items in a Grand Cherokee? The other option is to take the car and secure the gear in the trunk. The Jeep would be preferable, though, for some of the roads.

Acquire insurance, put the gear on the floor of the drivers seat, (steering wheel/column helps conceal) throw something dark over the gear, Lock the doors, enjoy the hike.

It is virtually impossible to "hide" camera gear in and SUV or Van, too easy for smash and grab. You could create a false floor, that may not be as noticeable or do like I do I keep winter coats and blankets just thrown all over the back of my van, makes it look like it belongs to a homeless person while not fool proof its better than nothing.

Maybe put everything in a baby gear bag.

Remember the poster who said his insurance didn't pay because there was no sign of forced entry?

I always use thick styrofoam coolers. Keeps the heat out and doesn't draw attention. Always in plain site as well......

My Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit came with blacked out windows on the 2nd row back to and including the tailgate. It also came with a roll out cover for the 'way back' area. When the cover is rolled out anything under it kinda disappears. If your Jeep didn't come with these options, I'm pretty sure that a visit to the parts department at your dealership will have you fixed up in seconds.

My wife's previous Grand Cherokee, a 2011 Laredo and her current one, a 2014 Limited, both have been equipped the same way so I think that is standard. If not, as you state, the parts dept can take care of that in a hurry. Or, a trip to a local salvage company could provide the roll out cover. Or, if the OP has a friend with the cover perhaps he could borrow it. They swap out in seconds.
