Bridge of Sighs Oxford UK

Shot taken by laying on the pavement and shooting upwards.

It's a sort of copy of the Bridge of Sighs in Venice but the Oxford one was built to allow students to move from one part of the college to the other without getting wet if it was raining. The one in Venice was used to transfer convicted people from the court to prison (hence the sighs).

I like the treatment and the fact it's not symmetrical, well done. Glad to see you back in the section.

I often wonder if there are shots within shots and see many here! Thank you for sharing, S-

Beautiful details, a very engaging image. I'm with Steve in that there is likely a whole series you could do with this scene. Super!

I think the tonality in this photo is very good. I think you nailed the detail in the bottom of the bridge. I really like the sky. The one thing that I is a bit distracting is the building under the bridge. I know it is part of the landscape and you can't really change that; but I might just think about cloning it out. That might be a big job, though. Fine black and white technique.

I take many shots lying on my back in gutters and on sidewalks. Im blind drunk and stoned so whats your excuse lol
So to your snap of this famous bridge. The bridge itself is sloping slightly but when you correct that the building underneath the bridge looks out of kilter so it needs some perspective correction. For me the process you have used has obliterated much of the fine architectural detail and if the original shot was not slightly soft the process has introduced some softness which I'm not convinced suits the subject.
I have seen both the bridge in Oxford and the one in Venice and the Venicean version wins hands down

Thanks to everybody for their feedback.

To Erich:- It would actually be pretty easy to remove the building below the bridge but it is there and I think it would be somewhat "cheating" to remove it.

To Mr Spad:- the bridge was added quite a lot of time after the buildings on the right and left were constructed. Therefore the bridge is not absolutely horizontal. Nothing wrong with that in my opinion. One takes shots of what is in front of one.
Regarding Venice v Oxford; one does not get gondoliers under the Oxford shot and to me that is a lot better.

Nicely done. I like the tones in this shot. Everything in it is sharp. The building "under" the bridge is an added bonus for me. If i shot this on my stomach it would take me awhile to get back up.

I didn't exactly bounce up after the shot but I did manage to go to other sites in Oxford to take some shots.

I like your monochrome conversion and the wide range of greys. However I have a difficult time trying to fully enjoy this picture. My brain wants it to be level and symmetrical, but no matter how I tilt or turn my head it doesn't get any better. Perhaps if you had lain a few feet to the left the symmetry would be better, even if the bridge wasn't perfectly level.
