Sandstone caves overlooking ocean. The cave was about 9-10 feet deep. Access was along a ledge to the right. Taken with 10-22mm.

Nice clarity and exposure. Maybe distant waterline is sloping down to right a teensy tiny bit?

I'm interested to learn what drew you to this composition. The cave walls appear to be full of beautiful curves and textures, and perhaps some interesting shadows.

For me, though, catching just a glimpse of the sparkling water and sunshine through the opening, I'm more frustrated than pleased. It's also a little claustrophobic with the walls closing in while I know there are great open spaces beyond. Just the viewpoint of one person who isn't familiar with the setting or experience.

Yes, some may think it is claustrophobic, but it was the walk along the ledge to the right that was scary, waves lapping over the rock was quite slippery. I have many shots of the ocean, wanted to get to the caves, which can only be reached at low tide. My back was essentially against the rear wall when taking the shot.

Like all my photos on here feel free to play with it (straighten horizon etc.)

Is it me, or does anyone else get the feeling that the model who was perched on that rise on the bottom of the opening just took a coffee break? I love the colors and I really love the textures in the stone that become apparent in download. There is, for my taste, too much ocean and blue sky in the middle of this composition. You mentioned that the cave is not that deep. That precludes moving back and making the opening less prominent. I'm wondering if a crop where the opening is less prominent would work. I like the photo; but it does not have an immediate impact. This comment is, of course, completely subjective. The technical aspects of the photo are very good. You handled a very large dynamic range really well.

Thanks! Though the left side of the cave is pretty, perhaps moving the ocean out of center draws more attention to the structure of the cave itself, even though the ocean now takes up a larger portion? The little keyhole opening on the right is pretty cool! One possibility is below:

(edit, maybe the larger opening assuages my tendency towards claustrophobia so now I can relax and enjoy the whole experience )

Thanks, This cave fills up to the top with water at high tide, as you see by the proximity of the water to the lip of the cave, the tide is coming in, speed was of the essence before I got soaked. I have some shots from different angles but they do not show the cave in relation to its surroundings.

Feel free to crop it.

I surprised how changing the perspective of this image with a simple crop has completely transformed it. Now the cave seems to be the center of interest. The ocean, while still prevalent, fulfills a supporting role. Also, I noticed in this crop that the precarious ledge you had to cross seems to become more of a focal point as well. I like this much better.
