Hello and welcome.

You don't have to go to exotic places to get good photos; sometimes your own back yard can provide many opportunities.

Try to look at things as if you are seeing them for the first time. Take a photo of an object from different angles and not just the "usual" perspective.

Be aware of what is behind and to the sides of the subject. I don't know how many times I've taken a shot and something distracting was in view that I didn't see first.

But most importantly, HAVE FUN.

Charlie

Welcome, DR! Great forum - even better since you indicate that your a new user as well. I'm new to the site, but not to photography. For encouragement, a number of years ago a woman in NY photographed and published a book entitled "A View From My Window" - views capturing only the view from her high-rise in Manhattan! The shots were spectacular - fall, snow, fog, construction nearby. Have fun! Maybe there are friends that also don't get out that much; offer to photograph them in ordinary settings - both for the experience as well as getting to know them better. Perhaps photograph their hobby, family...many options. Have fun, and happy photography!!

Thanks Heart. I can get out but because of my legs I can not walk far and I use to like going to where there was water and trees and stuff like that. Now I only get to malls and places like that. I know I can find things to photograph but I really have to keep my eyes open and look for them. Thanks again.

Perfect, DR! Malls are perfect! They usually have foilage that are easy to photograph, plus most have a movie theatre, which you could practice photographing theatre goers - and not just with their 3D glasses on. Pet stores are also great because you can film the little cuties and impress friends with different breed shots! Glass in store windows presents many problems in filming (glare, dbl images, lighting, etc.); but, it's also a medium that can be a photographer's friend. Architecture is a fascinating subject; many building shots focus on angles, sky, texture, and foreground/background. Many of the followers of this site can also present suggestions or ideas. I wish you to very best, and be sure to take your camera's manual with you wherever you go, as it may provide suggestions for poses, locations, etc. Congratulations in advance - and post your shots on the site!! Have a great new week!!
