Nikon D90 Function/Problem?

I just bought a well rated but used D90 from one of the reputable online camera stores. I am unfamiliar with its operation and have noticed that while looking through the view finder when I take a shot there seems to be a slight vibration or shutter. Possibly the mirror returning to its closed position? Does anyone else experience this phenomenon and is it normal? I have the option of trading it back in if theres a defect, Can anyone help?

If you mean after you snap the pic, that is perfectly normal for the Nikon D90.

enjoy your new camera. the d90 is still a great camera and was popular photography magazines camera of the year a few years ago. if you go to nikonusa.com scroll down towards the bottom of the page and click on download center you should be able to download the d90 manual as a pdf for free.

Well, perhaps you have never owned anything like the D90 before. ;) I think you are going to love that new camera. I know I do.

No I have never owned a Nikon DSLR. I have only owned this one for a week and am still adjusting to it and its many features and thus far I am pretty happy with the results. I just had some concern for the slight vibration in the viewfinder after taking shots. I have been now told that this is normal for the D90 and appreciate the experience shared. Thanks

Thank you. The manual and all the extras that come with a new D90 was also supplied with my used one. This is a great site and I appreciate the advice and shared wisdom. dadicus

Forget the Nikon manual. It is poorly arranged. Get David Busch's Nikon D90 book. It is more expensive than other manuals, but he explains the "why" as well as the "how", and it is very well written.

Dadicus,
I'm an owner of the Nikon D90 for 2 years. Professional for over 28 years. You have made a good choice in the camera.

Personally I refer constantly to a book by J.Dennis Thomas, Nikon D90 Digital Field Guide. He makes things so simple!

Looking at what your experiencing, the D90 has a exposure delay mode (in the shooting/display menu) Turning this option on causes the shutter to open one second after the shutter release button is pressed and the reflex mirror
has been raised. This option is for shooting long exposures with a tripod where camera shake from pressing the shutter release button and mirror slap vibration can cause the image to be blurry. It could be that you have this option selected and you may need to change it. Select d10 in the Shooting/Display menu.
Good luck with your new camera, but never forget it's just an extension to your eyes.

I have both 'Digital Field Guides'. One authored by J. Dennis Thomas, and also David D. Busch.
Sometimes, it is considerably helpful to have two opinions for the same question.
