When I rotate a picture,taken with the camera in the vertical position, to horizonal the picture is compressed. In other words skinny people become fat. How can this be corrected?

There should be an option for "maintain aspect ratio" on your rotation menu. Do you see it?

No-only option I can find is the rotation arrows.

I don't know what camera you are using. I set my T2i to auto rotate all my photos when I shoot them.
