I just broke out all my equipment to get some test shots and find the exposure I like.

Here is 1/640th sec, ISO 100, using an 80mm refractor telescope with a Thousand Oaks solar filter (glass). All of this is mounted on an Orion equatorial mount for tracking.

Of course this is zoomed in quite a bit, but with a 5D Mark II you can do that and still have a decent result.

Maybe you can help me. I have a Nikon D40-X and a Meade ETX-90EC with the camera adapter ring. I am not getting anything when I did my test shots. Can you tell me what the reason MIGHT be?

The only thing I can think of is that there is a "photo port disc" that must be removed or a lever to switch the mirror out of the way to allow light to pass through to the camera. It may depend on how old your scope is or the exact model.
