I'm planning on a trip to Utah next spring. I can't seem to find the rules on carrying a tripod on the plane. I'd hate to leave my Manfrotto at the airport while I'm in Utah. Any thought on carry-on photo equipment for a flight?
I plan on carrying on my canon 6D, a 70-300 telephoto, and a 24-135 lens, along with the tripod and a flash. Should i pack the tripod in the checked baggage?
Thanks

Contact your airline or your travel agent.

At times, I have taken my tripod apart so it will fit into my carry on.

I would think the TSA has a website which would be a good place to check.

You will not be allowed to carry a tripod in the cabin, but you can check it with your luggage.

Do you really think that any of us is a travel agent capable of answering questions over what is allowed or disallowed by the TSA or airline companies?

Call the airline customer services.

THAT is your only safe bet. Anything short of that is a wild guess.

Ron..., Did you ever consider one of us may be a travel agent and would know the answer?

And did you ever consider that many claims on internet are false?

Good suggestion but is there any cause for the caustic preface?
Your expertise is acknowledged but your abrasive asides are out of line.
Civility. Is that too much to ask?

I've carried a tripod (in a case ) on many flights over the years. No problem.

What? You think my response was abrasive! I can assure you I was only trying to be succinct. A tripod or monopod can easily be used as a weapon and will probably not be allowed on board.

The few times I've tried to bring one on board after 911 I was told it had to go in baggage! I admit though that I haven't tried it in many years, so if you do it all the time then I guess they have lightened up, which is good!

Not to worry, the answer was two parts and not only addressed to you.

The 'abrasive was for me... For being direct.

Thanks for the replay. I was only asking for someone's past experience. I never thought UHH was a repository for TSA rules. Typically photographers travel more than the general public. A little advice was all i was looking for.
Next time i want a nasty answer, I'll ask one of my grandkids. My dog is more polite than you.
Thanks to everyone else(except you) for the advice.
