I have an associate who asked me if I could take some of his old photographs taken by his Father while in the Navy, and restore them. He has 2 B&W and 2 Color. He wants 4 "8x10" of all 4 of the originals and 2 "8x10" of each of the enhanced. A total of 24 "8x10". He also wanted me to copy them to a CD with both JPEGs and TIFFs. I used a Canon MG5220 to scan the originals, PSE 9 and Noise Ninja for the enhancements, and a Canon Pro9000 Mark II w/ Pro Platinum paper for the prints. I have 5 1/2 hours in the work. I've sold some "stock" work, but I haven't a clue as to how I should charge for this type of work. Any guidance towards a "fair price" from my fellow Hogs would be greatly appreciated. I've included a sample.

For the family of a military veteran I would give him the prints with a smile and a thank you for his father's service to our country.
5 1/2 hours is a small price to pay for the service that that gentleman gave our country. I agree with St3v3M, give him the pictures and express your gratitude for his father's service.

I am going to go out on a limb here...
I note you use the word 'associate' and not friend? If you are in the photographic trade and this is your business and most important, this is for someone you do not know, not related to, then why not charge them for your time?
Yes they were in the Navy and yes they flew aircraft and yes they may well have put themselves in harms way but they are not charity cases, they were well paid for what they did, they volunteered and if like me I am guessing they enjoyed their time whilst serving for 'Queen and Country' then I am sure they can afford to purchase something they like.
If on the other hand this is just your hobby and they are indeed strangers then I would suggest you charge them for the price of either your favourite drink or a bouquet of flowers for your wife\partner ... fill in the dots.
If they are friends or you value the friendship of your 'associate' then just give them those images :)
I'll now lay back and accept the incoming
My response is worse...amazing that anyone would want a copy of these the way they are..sun hurts the eyes and takes away from the subjects....blot the sun and they would be better..charge who ever wants a copy...IMHO...Its a business.

I was too polite to mention that but most pilots put on their sunglasses as soon as they open their eyes first thing in the morning (usually about 10am)
Aeordynamic question: I know that the shape of the wing causes a low pressure area above it, and that lifts the plane. So, when the plane is flying upsidedown, why doesn't it descend?

That was my first thought - too much sun in the wrong spot.

Well then maybe the son still has his fathers sunglasses so that he may enjoy them...
To St3v3M & egnblack : I appreciate your patriotism. My Father served in the Korean war, I put 4 yrs in stateside, and my Son just finnished his 4th tour in Iraq, and "re-upped" for another 6. Unfortunately, Canon doesn't "give" me free paper & ink in "gratitude" for my families service. It cost me full price just like everyone else.
I would give them to him and say thank you for his relative's service.
Thanks glojo. At least you didn't address my situation from a soapbox. My "associate" conducts a monthly chemical analysis on our boiler system at work and we engage in "friendly" small talk ranging from fishing to photography. He has plenty of money, whereas I'm looking for any means of additional income. I do consider myself a "hobbiest", but I have a lot of time invested in my abilities and a lot of money invested in my equipment and software. His ability to pay isn't an issue, but my being "fair" in what I charge him is. Thanks again for your time.

I agree with your critique, unfortunately he seemed to really like the sun burst thing and only requested that I remove the circular aberration from the upper left side and color enhance the sky and clouds. I said "no problem".
