Wondering if anybody else out there has one, and if so how you like it?????
Had one for several years, and then my wife used another year or two. Wonderful machine!
If you haven't bought it yet the D5300 is a significant upgrade. Nikon refurbished units are reasonable and good as new.

Already have one------- I like it well enough. Just wondering about a new camera?

Nice thing about Nikon is that all your lenses will work and the menus remain very similar so there is little learning curve.
There are many newer Nikon choices since the D5100. Which to suggest depends on where you want to go. But don't expect dramatic image improvements: the D5100 remains excellent.

I have D5100 and use it very often along with my D7000 and D700. It might sound strange but images from D5100 I like the most.
I know D5100 and D7000 share the same sensor but for some reason 5100 images look a little better.
I think it's a great camera, compact, easy to use, great for travel. I don't have any desire to upgrade it, 16mp is more than enough.
I formerly owned a Nikon D5200 and considered it one of the better cameras among many I have owned. Well balanced, practical control layout, great image quality, highly enjoyable ease of use...a fine camera.
I use to have one....gave it to my grand-daughter! I now have D7100 but I did like the D5100 alot....
Yes I have one it's a great camera .

I had a D5100 for awhile and loved it. Since that time, I've been bold enough to consider cameras OTHER THAN Nikon and Canon, like the Pentax K-50. If you haven't already purchased the D5100, I would strongly suggest you consider the Pentax, possibly even it's newest upgrade, K-70. But, here is a comparison of the Nikon with the Pentax. Don't pay too much attention to the score because it is merely subjective---but DO pay attention to the actual differences between the 2 and see if you think the Pentax may give you better choices.

Have one and use often. I have the Tamron 18-280 mm on it 99% of the time.
Hi Renn.
I use my 5100 as a back-up to my d7000. I have had no problems and also enjoy the swivel multi-angle lcd screen on the d51000 and NOT available on the d7000. Each has its own advantages and therefore pair very well together. Hop this helps. Philphotog, Perth. UK.

May I ask you a question? Why do you want to know if others have it and their opinions?
I have had mine since it came on the market. I used a D40 prior to the 5100. I really like the 5100. The flip screen is great. Mine is set up for Back Button Focus. I am an occasional photographer and not into serious editing. In short, the 5100 does everything I want with the potential for much more if I get more serious.
Hello Renn, I started out with a Nikon D40 - great camera easy to use and sorry I sold it. Second Nikon was a Nikon D90 a real work horse and another camera I wish I had never sold. Then came a beautiful little camera, easy to use, the Nikon D5100. I'm glad I never sold it when I bought the Nikon D7000 - all very good cameras. As for me, I could of saved a bunch of money and still could have been very happy with the Nikon D40.
I shoot for my own personal enjoyment. I learned that others with a real understanding of photography, can do great things with most any of these cameras and that's my humble opinion.
Have fun and good shooting. Your camera is only as good as you are.
