THE OUTER BANKS OF NORTH CAROLINA

Some months ago I asked for advice on what to see in the Carolinas. So many people were so kind to take the time to recommend their favorites. Later on I informed you that we thought there were too many things we wanted to accomplish in 2 wks, so we would save the Blue Ridge for a future trip and just go south along the East Coast. We started in Wash., D.C., the purpose being to photo the cherry blossoms. Alas, after we booked our flight, we found out the blossoms were a month earlier than usual. In fact, the only ch bloss we saw were their brown petals on the ground - nary a one on a tree. So we will go back for that in some future trip.

We saw some battle sights and Jamestown, the first permanent English settlement in America (1607) - all interesting. Inspected the fleet in Norfolk, stayed in Virginia Beach and from there, drove onto the Outer Banks. http://www.flickr.com/photos/liebgard/sets/72157629805677366/

First stop was Kitty Hawk and then southward. Had great weather. We did not plan for nearly enough time, so I have not much in the way of herons or other birds, as you have dazzled us with your fantastic photos of them Stalked around some marshlands, but unproductive:cry:
I am an amateur, I possess just a Panasonic that fits my palm and we did not spend enough time lurking for wildlife. So my photos are not the stuff that dreams are made of. I've picked some from the Outer Bank drive, nonetheless. There are more than I want to post on this site, so I will post the link to my Flickr of photos chosen for you to view, if you wish. I feel I ought to post some, since many of you, who gave me such great advice on what to see, asked that I post photos of our trip.

Ther's never enough time when you get to OBX. Actually staying in the campgrounds in the national parks on the OBX would give you a better view of the wild life. A nice addition on your next trip would be to to take the ferry from Harkers Island out to the lighthouse on Shackleford banks is a nice day trip or overnight if you want to camp

Indeed, good advice. I saw photos of the Sh-fd lighthouse; it is intriguing. We would need to fly to the East Coast, so equipment-wise, not so easy. Husband says he has done his share of camping in the military and is not keen on it.
Please look back on my post, as I have posted some photos of our time B4 the OB, if you care to.
