Nice pics of an intriguing little bird. Looks just like some the local green herons down on the river. What's always fascinated me about them is their ability to compress their necks.
Here's a couple photos taken by the Audubon bird sanctuary in Southeastern PA.
I love these birds. they will often allow a nearer approach than other birds. Nice captures.
Excellent set and really love these little birds!
They're one of the reasons I go down to the river so often, them and their larger cousins the Great Blue's. I names a couple of regular visitors to the "fishing" spot along the river by work, they've been coming back for a couple years. I named them Harry and Hermione although its hard to tell them apart unless they are close to one another.

I have some who have raised young on my pond but these were taken at a local lake.
