These photo's are my first attempt at Sports Photography...
These are from a game between Wingate University and Newberry College...
Not only was this my first attempt, I had to go and make it even harder on myself by photographing a night game....
Didn't really know what setting to use, so it kinda was just hunt and peck for setting's....
The first three were taken in sequence .....
I know these are not the greatest but, I didn't think they were too bad for a first try, and I don't have the right lens for this....I tried shooting with my 105mm lens as this is my fastest lens of the ones I have....Tom

Nice timing of the shots. You might try a little faster shutter speed if you can without compromising too much on noise from the higher ISO required.

That was the plan , but I found in increasing my ISO I was getting to much noise in the photo's.....Appreciate you looking in and commmenting

Yep, I know what you mean. I spent a season shooting indoor wrestling in poorly lit gyms (no flash allowed) and to get the shutter speed I needed, I was getting too much noise from the high ISO required. I was using a Canon 7D, which was relatively noisy at high ISO. My solution was to go to a FF camera with substantially lower high-ISO noise. Problem solved, but not cheap. The alternative is faster lenses (but then you're dealing with shallower DOF when wide open) or some of the better denoise PP SW (the NIK plug-in is fairly effective and free)

Hi Tom: Boy you picked a tough first try. The shots are good. Night sports is a bear. You have to raise the iso, to try to stop the action. You need at least a lens that will open to at least 2.8. I shot a football game with my Nikon 7100 70-200 2.8 lens iso at 6400, 5000 and still not enough light on the field. It is a battle for sure. Keep at it Tom.
I would start shooting daytime sports only whether it's soccer, lacrosse, track and field, baseball, etc.
Good luck
