Good morning everyone. I am looking to buy a teleconverter for my Canon 70-300 Telephoto lens. Any suggestions, without breaking the bank?
Thanks for the response GC. I will check it out. This forum is great. Take care.
Try B&H for Bower TCX2 telconverter-$169. I'm going to get one for my Nikon D90.

Check ebay or your local camera shop....I picked up a nice used one for $60.00.
1.4 or 2.0 ? How much bank are we talking about?
So did you pick up a used or new one?
Hey Larry great photo love Jimmie. Well I ordered one today, for $150 will keep you posted
You did not tell us what version you ordered, but a 2x on that lens is not a good idea as it will almost certainly kill your autofocus. The 1.4 will make it spotty at best. As a general statement, teleconverters don't work too well on lenses with an aperture smaller than f4 as AF needs f5.6 or brighter to work reliably. Of course you can focus manually.
Well I ordered a Vivitar. I used one when I went up to the Ag & Eagles, Carson City, NV and it worked very well with my lens. In fact I was very surprised. It did not AF so everything was manual and it worked very well. Time will tell......will keep you posted.

I have the same lens. Have the Kenko 1.4 and 2.0. The 1.4 is pretty forgiving on the autofocus. The 2.0 seems to confuse the camera and make the lens and camera hunt too much for focus. It would be much more useful with your lens in manual mode. With a 70-200 4.0 L lens the 2.0 immediately went to 8 on the aperture. No big deal during daylight unless you like more bokeh. I haven't tried the 1.4 outside of a quick test at the store. I think the 2.0 was $170.00 and the 1.4 was $250.00. Would have stuck with the Canon version but not compatible.
Thank you so much for your comments. I will keep you updated on what happens. How long have you had your camera? I have always had a Canon. Started with the AE1.....then went to the 2100 point and shoot. (love this camera) keep in my purse all the time. So then graduated to the T2i last year. I am loving take pictures with it so far.
Be careful . . Kenko makes several levels of tele-extenders. The one to buy is their "Teleplus Pro 300" series. It my understanding that they ore the maker for several other major brands. I use a 1.4X with a Tamron 70-300 with no problems getting my Nikon D90 to auto-focus when at f6.3 and 300mm. the auto focus slows a bit but not so as to notice.
I'm very pleased with the combination.
Well thanks guys I will also benefit from all the tips as I too am looking at a converter for my Canon 50d and a 70-300 lens.(me thinks E bay).
