Jose Fernandez.

Today it is a sad day for the Marlins and the City of Miami. Early this morning the body of Jose Fernandez was found near Miami Beach after a boat accident that according to the news took the life of another two other persons.
Details about this tragic accident are sketchy and I guess we will know more as details of the autopsy are released to the public.
His team mates gathered at the Marlins Stadium after the news to grieve and remember the young talent. The Atlanta Braves were visiting but the game was cancelled.
It is indeed a sad day for all of us.
RIP Jose.

It turns out there is another thread about this subject, but you would never know that from the title chosen by that OP.

Actually no title was chosen otherwise I would have never posted this. We are grieving over the death of Jose, a young talented pitcher with a great future ahead of him. His death has devastated us all.
To make this more tragic I learned that his girlfriend is expecting their first child.
It is a tragedy to all of us and a great loss for the Marlins.
My prayers are with his family.

I understand.
It is a loss for his family, as well as for his greater family, namely Marlins fans and residents of Miami.

CNN got the lead right. For this topic? Who would have thunk it. Perhaps it was intended to draw attention for those who couldn't care less about baseball. This is sad because he wife is expecting.

Yes, it is sad.
But, my disagreement with the other thread is that this is a regional story.
With all the things with national U.S. import, let alone those with world import, I cannot praise it as a lead.

The loss is felt throughout baseball. He was a fine human being. One could tell that just from the picture he took of his pregnant lady and joy expressed in comments that he shared with all. His child will have the prayers of a grieving country. His lady our tears.

The Miami Marlins had a reunion at the Marlins Stadium when his death was known. Mattingly, the team manager, pronounced a few words honoring him and his speech was interrupted several times by tears in his eyes.
Other Cuban players in both the National and American league were also saddened by the news and other players that knew him well expressed their condolences.
Jose was involved in several local charities giving back part of him to his community. Those that shared often with him have called him a gentleman, a great friend and a humanitarian.
His life has been cut short at 24 and he will not be able to see his first son when he is born. This has to be devastating for his woman and his family.
RIP Jose.

When I lived in Florida I owned a 23 foot fishing boat and did a lot of fishing in the everglades but the one thing I would NEVER do is go out at night. It is extremely dangerous. I really feel for their families, it's a sad day for the team.

Wayne, photography and fishing have been my passion. I DO fish at night in the ocean for yellowtail and other snappers but I always go with my GPS. I usually leave for the fishing spot when there is enough light in the sky and return usually by midnight reverting the route in my GPS. I never speed and since at night "all the cats are black" I keep an eye on my route and use lots of caution.
We do not know many details of this accident. We do know the boat was not Jose's boat and I have to guess he was not operating it. Investigators of this accident had said there was no evidence of alcohol or drugs.
Boating at night can be very dangerous and this has not been the first boating accident that took place at night in Miami.

When I owned my boat I had an old Loran system on it and it just wasn't tight enough for me to take the chance. Especially in the glades where an oyster bar could ruin your day really quick.

I would like to see as much concern over troops that have gotten killed in action as there is over some over paid spoiled ass kid playing a kids game that was probably drunk hitting some rocks. It is a shame that people worship these losers but never give the men and women, whose lives are cut short, that are actually doing something worth wild and not playing a stupid game.

I regularly see concern raised over troops that have been killed or disabled, may I suggest you get out of the other side of the bed tomorrow.

Jose was a great baseball player and a great human being. We do not worship him but honor him on his death. I wonder if you will have someone to honor you when you die.
Our troops are continuously and repeatedly praised for their sacrifices and you should know that. You are offending the many fans and players who participate in a sport that is America's favorite not to say you are offending the Miami Marlins, the persons living in this city that mourn Jose's death and the family of the victims of this tragic accident.
I just wonder if there is anything of a human being left in you.
