Adobe Camera Raw Update Adds 5D Mark 4 to the camera list

I don't remember seeing a notice on this forum that Adobe has addressed the 5D Mark 4 addition to Camera Raw so I'm offering this information. I discovered that the CR2 update 9.7 adds the new camera to the PS CC plugin. I got the update to work in CC, however, all of my attempts to update my PS CS6 program have failed so far. Adobe gives a suggestion that you use 9.1.1 but that doesn't add the 5D Mark 4 to PS CS6. They do offer a DNG Converter that does allow you to open your raw files in CS6 after you convert them and those DNG files can be opened in your existing version of CR. The installer for the 9.7 update is found at https://helpx.adobe.com/camera-raw/kb/camera-raw-plug-in-installer.html and on that page you will see the link for updating your PS CC along with this comment: For Bridge CS6 and Photoshop CS6, substitute with the Camera Raw 9.1.1 installer below. I assume the CS6 update will come later???

If I have missed this info being related on this forum earlier, I apologize for my redundancy.

You did miss it, but I'm sure others did also. The new ACR / DNG converter does not support dual pixel raw - at least for now. Canon DPP 4.5 is required for that.

CS6 may not ever get this update. They are eventually going to stop supporting this stand alone boxed version and force everyone to go with the subscription. I knew it was coming so I switched about a year ago.

I suspect you are right. I too subscribed to CC a couple of months before taking delivery of the 5D Mk4 thinking this may happen. But, I thought perhaps that since hope springs eternal, the gods may take pity on me one last time. I still cling to CS6 as a reliable backup and something I can use when my retirement funds are depleted and I still want to play. I have vowed that the Mk4 will be my last frivolous camera purchase. It, along with my 7D2 and 5Ds should cover the bases until the bitter end.

Thanks for your reply.

I have the 7DII and 5DIV but no 5Ds. Would like one and may get one if I can find a good deal on a used one. I probably don't need it though. I know someone that uses it for hummingbird images. All those pixels give him options from cropping way in on those tiny little hummers. But the 30mp's of the 5DIV may be all I really need.

You are likely in great shape with 30 MPS for just about anything. I have the 5Ds for use in my studio, especially for commercial product images where clients often prefer the high res files.

I read somewhere from Adobe that even if you don't have the CC version, you will always receive updates regarding new camera models.
