It disappeared. Is there a shortcut to show/not show it?
Thanks, all.

Got that. Is there a shortcut to get it to show/no show, such as "C" for crop or "S" for clone?
Not that I know of specifically. You might be able to create an action that will do what you want.

Nope but as suggested you can create an action called from a shortcut.
Personally I create my own work-space, save it and I use that to reset it if something goes a-wire.
The tab key will hide the tool panel and the panels on the right, unless they change it in the newer versions.

Yes, there is. You can use almost any shortcut you want. Very easy.
Click on Edit. Click on Keyboard Shortcuts.
In the Application Menu Command, scroll down until you see Window and click on it. That will expand its view.
Scroll down until you see Tools. It's a long scroll, all the way to the bottom.
Click on Tools.
Choose whatever shortcut key you want. If the shortcut is available, not available, can't even be used because it's part of the system, or whatever, you'll be told. If it's in use, you can change it from what it is to Windows Tools. I do that for lots of things that I don't use. For Windows Tools in my PS CC 2015.7, I use CTRL SHFT M to toggle Windows Tools on and off. Not pneumonic, but the CTRL SHFT keys are easily done with my left hand and the M, being in the middle of the keyboard, is easily done with my first hand. Once you choose your keyboard shortcut, remember to Accept it.

------
Alt plus F9 - Actions window on/off
Tab - all windows on/off
Edit>keyboard shortcuts - lists all keyboard shortcuts
Perhaps some of the above keyboard tricks will answer your question. - Dan
