The textures, details, colors and light are super, Walt! I filled my screen with the download and there's a depth to it also that one wouldn't expect.

Very, very nicely composed and photographed (and processed?)!

Well done Walt, I like the light a lot and it is tack sharp. Unlike Linda I am struggling with the composition, purely personal.....I would like to see the main Cobb tilted a bit and a touch more off center.

Thanks Linda. The texture of the dried down corn and leaves was what I was drawn to. This was a group of corn plants that had been peeled open as a demonstration display.

I wondered if I'd get any comments about the centered position of the main subject, and played around with a few different crops but this is the one I liked over all the others. Feel free to play with it & find something more appealing.

Walt I really like the coarse dried texture of this shot. Everything is sharp. The corn, husks and silk are all very dry and aged but the overall shot has a soft warm glow that is pleasing.

I think it's the visual weight of the other corn + the angles of the husks + the green stem (?) that make the centering work so well (for some of us, lol). Here they are to compare:

Quick question. Is your coloring a little off (the ears look a little washed out and don't have that fresh-picked golden look seen only at the tip of the ear in the foreground), or has this display been out in the sun for awhile and therefore bleached out a bit?

Nice photo, by the way. I like it, and I like the vertical centered ear--nice composition, I think.

beautiful texture and light - I'm with Frank on the composition. If it was laying on a table, rotate the image 90 degrees clockwise, but if hanging from the plant, that sure wouldn't make much sense to do - LOL. Great subject matter!

I really like the way you highlighted the main subject, and let the light fall off toward the edges, very subtle but effective. Did you use a radial filter for that? Whatever you used I like it. That technique works well for flowers also, I think.

Walt this is a wonderful shot on many levels. The lighting is terrific. The texture of the corn is wonderful. Like the main corn cob just takes center stage. This photo is making me want to go out and buy some corn.

I first saw this about 3 weeks ago and only stopped to shoot it last Saturday, so yes it has been out in the sun for a while.

Not a radial filter but similar - I did apply a bit of the darken/lighten center filter in color efex in Nik.
