I spent the afternoon on and evening on Friday photographing birds in flight. The Gull-billed Terns are infrequent visitors up and down the Atlantic Coast, Unlike many other Terns, these Terns eat insects. The Glossy Ibis is just a georgeous bird in the sunlight. The Ospreys are incubating and the eggs should be hatching sometime in the next two weeks. The Females do most of the incubating while the Male fishes. The Male brings the fish to the female who goes off to eat it while the Male takes over the nest duties. I thought it was generous of him to bring her half a fish!

Jealous of the Glossy Ibis, have yet to capture one of these, Nice Terns also, thanks for sharing. PS.. Osprey generally only eat the head and stomach of the fish, this holds the most nutrients. Daddy Osprey was bringing home the tail end of the stick to Mama Osprey.

Beautiful shots, the terns are so pretty and I really like them. I try to get shots of them when we are at the beach and now I look at yours and see what I have to try do to get the shots as clear and crisp as you have yours.

Terrific flights!
Especially love the glossy! It is amazing how their feathers will display iridescent colors when the sun hits them right.

These are amazing! The light on the Glossy Ibis is wonderful. Until you see them in the correct light, you can't appreciate their iridescence. And, I see that the beautiful Ospreys decided to add some color to their nest. Quite amusing.

Thanks Gator, Molly and Bob101. Yes the Ibis are really irredescent and I didn't have to do anything to bring those colors out in Post Processing. As to the decorations in the nest: those ribbons were probably attached to a mylar balloon that had been let loose. Those things are a bit of a pet peeve of mine. They fly for a long time, get caught in trees everywhere and never seem to go away. They should be banned or at least made of something that will degrade in sunlight. So much for my morning rant!
