Amazon have once again played a dirty trick, I have just received this Email two days after the event:

"As of September 19, 2016, your Amazon Unlimited Photos storage plan is no longer available.

To replace this, we are giving you a free 3-month trial of the Unlimited Storage plan, which starts now and lets you store as many photos, videos, and other files as you like. When your Unlimited Storage trial ends in 3-months, you will be charged $59.99 for a one-year plan. You can cancel your trial at any time"

I will not be using their option at any price because it is not that good for storage, in my case it does not keep upto date with my recent photographs at this moment in time it is 3 days behind.

Sorry for your problem, but I have never trusted Amazon, and very seldom use them.
I just do not trust any online storage, especially if its free, too many things to go awry and at my age I don't need the aggravation of dealing with people that can't speak English.

Like "Mangles" I prefer to store my work product on local disks. Also I backup to local disks. I only put things on-line to display to other people. I use Smugmug as well as two of my own personal websites. But if the ISPs go out of business, I don't lose anything.

I used Amazon frequently..but not anymore. The prices have gone up..no free postage for under £10, many goods are priced at £9.99 so as to make you buy another product to qualify for free postage..but what really gets me is they take steps to avoid paying tax..no wonder they can undercut established firms on prices who pay the going rate of tax!!

I read recently about another company that was limiting the free unlimited storage. I guess they underestimated how much people had available for storage. I use online services only for sharing. I store everything right here.

This has nothing to do with photography, but I recently ordered two sleeping bags from Amazon. What came to me were two, huge plastic planters. Not even in the same universe of products from what I ordered! They said the products I ordered were out of production...so they sent something completely unrelated?!? They then offered to take the planters back and asked if I wanted to select different sleeping bags. I had wanted them for a camping excursion with the grandkids on a specific date, so I asked when they could deliver. The answer was for a date a day after the camping excursion was to have taken place. As a Prime subscriber, I suggested they should expedite the order, particularly since my original order was placed in time to arrive for my need, and the delay was Amazon's fault. They declined and I told them to stuff it! And by the way - the sleeping bags in question are still being advertised by Amazon. I have no idea whether anyone else has dealt with their Customer Service, but my experience is anything but positive!

Been dealing with Amazon.com for a few years, have purchased many things from them, have returned some, have never had a single problem. The closest to a problem I've had with Amazon.com is they delivered a very large heavy box earlier than was projected.

Do not trust on line storage, clouds or what have you. Have a 2 TB drive that I back everything onto and also put them on DVD.

I agree. I have had very few problems, maybe two or three, with Amazon and I've been using them since they started. The problems have been that prime shipments arrived one day late and when I called, they extended my prime subscription by a month.

For the size of the company and the number of orders/shipments they process daily, they are far superior to any other company with which I have worked.

I use Blackblaze and Carbonite. Probably overkill. I also use a Picasa backup on an external hard drive. I don't have a fire proof safe, something I have told myself to get for years, but myself doesn't always listen. I would hate to have everything at home and have them all destroyed in a fire.

I've been dealing with Amazon (Prime) for 5+ years. Not one incident/error they did not make right. They have (also) given me courtesy gift cards to keep me satisfied. I believe success is a function of how well you deal with customer service. I use their Chats frequently - never call - and I'm extremely courteous/persistent and complimentary with all customer service agents. "A little honey goes a long way"!! I spend thousands a year - they don't want to lose my business.

Why complain do you not know amazon is in business to make money? Should they have to buy larger servers just so you can keep using it for free? I don't know who told you everything in life was free but they lied to you. Quit whining.

Yeah, what he said! I have used Amazon for years, always great service. That said I would not dream of backing up on line, except for my iPhone and iPad. Everything goes on to two separate external hard drives, and then into the safe. I should keep one off-site, but I am just too lazy. My bad.

I back up 4 desktop HD's and a laptop to 3 externals and also to the Cloud via Acronis. I think my data and OS drive are safe.
