Shot outdoors with d7200 using a Nikon 105mm 2.8 from the sixties. She was looking into the sun, but was just inside the shade line.. Lightroom conversion to B&W and exposure mods... I used that lens back in the day on a Nikon F film camera. Always thought that lens was tack sharp, but everything I shoot with it on the 7200 seems soft. I can even remember stretching a ladies hose over the lens to soften it. Remembering to focus by hand is a pain! Comments, good or bad are appreciated!!!
I have the same lens and use it on my D7100. It is tack sharp on the 7100 just as it is on my F2. Focusing should not be a problem as the focus indicator in the view finder works.

Focus indicator on the 7200 doesn't work!!!!
I stand corrected.. focus indicator does seem to work!!! Still looks soft.😕
Perhaps you need to do a calibration test of the lens with it on your D7200 and make any necessary adjustment to match the lens's focus to camera. Could be a front or back focusing issue, which if fairly easy to correct.

I like this shot very much, not mention that your wife has beautiful eyes! IMO, softness is not always a bad thing in a portrait.
I know what you mean about focusing an old 105mm.
Beautiful image of a lovely lady, Gdelvecc! I think I like it slightly darker as was done below.

Great image of a lovely lady
When I first viewed this image I thought it was too bright, however after seeing the darker version I think the first image is the best!!!!!!
