Because Honeywell was the official US distributor for Asahi Glass. Cameras sold in Asia were Asahi.

I had both at different times. (One stolen in a house breakin). I think it was to get you to buy more cameras😊

The Spotmatics and K1000s are still reasonably above rock bottom on Ebay and shopgoodwill, unlike some of the Rebels.
Good thing I found my Super Tak 50mm f/1.4 in with perfect glass in repairable condition for $6 at the thrift store - those things are >$70!

honeywell instruments was the official U.S. importer of the Pentax camera line. the Asahi bodies coming into the states were direct from Japan. in England, if i remember correctly, and i may not - i think some were labeled Brookfield, after one of the very large camera stores on the island. otherwise they also would have been labeled Asahi, which was the maker of the Pentax.
in the U.S. honeywell was always the official importer.
First off...
Thank You for the Service time you put in for our Country....
About the same time (when you bought your camera) - A friend showed me his Minolta SR"T"-101 and gave it to me when he was between "tours" of Vet Nam ... I still have it and from time to time use it.
About that fine looking "stash".... Very good = Do NOT take that off again... If you have glasses you could be an Alfred Stieglitz look-a-like :-)
Bought my first 35mm in 67. Used Yashica JP with a clip on spotmeter! Only camera I still don't own. Gave it to a friend who was seriously interested in pursuing photography @1970
