I was on a short holiday in the West of England (Somerset, Devon and Cornwall), one the places I visited was Selworthy which is a small village owned and run by The National Trust.
Blessed with a wealth of superb thatched cottages and a beautiful old church, Selworthy Green is the very epitome of an English country village. It occupies a magnificent setting in the Exmoor National Park and is but a short distance from Minehead Bluff on the famous South West Coast Path.
Attached are a few photographs which I took on my walk though the village on a very dull and rainy day. Please download fo the best view.
Nice!
Are those roof a lot of maintenance?
From what I understand, they are pretty sturdy and don't require a lot of maintenance.
Lovely! Selworthy is now on my list for the next trip to the UK. thanks for sharing!

Thatched roofs last from 15 - 40 years depending on the thatch straw used, the slope of the roof and the quality of the workmanship.
Maintenance is required every 10 years or so when the ridge is replaced and moss is removed from the roof.
Thanks Angler, I was on the way back from a holiday in Brittany so we decided to spend a few days in Devon and Cornwall, unfortunately the weather was not that good. As you know that part of England is not at its best in poor weather.
Just wonderful taking us on your walk ....

Thanks for the tour, John. Great photos. Jane
Thanks for the photos. These are great old thatched roofed homes. Brings back memories from when I lived in England many years ago. Reminds me of the pub and bed and breakfast my cousin use to own in Wales, a little different architecture and not as many trees.
Don't we ALL want to live there? Thanks for such a teasing selection of pictures!
