I like this photo! Not just the tangle of bikes (and your commentary, which made me smile), but the reds and blues of the window frames matching some of the bikes. And the lone yellow - all add to a visual feast.

Thanks Linda but with all the caterwauling in other threads, I would appreciate some negative criticism also!!

I didn't realize that Photography is now that hard. When I got my first camera, back in Neolithic times, the guy I bought it from ( a Pro) said check your exposure, check your focus, frame it, shoot! That was it.

Merely nitpicks, having little to do with the overall impact (for me):

1. Clone out the bike wheel on far left
2. I would have preferred that the wheels, both top and bottom of frame, were not cut off.

I have zero issue with exposure or clarity. If there's anything else, I can't see it and you'll have to wait for the next respondent

For what it's worth, exposure seems good, the color looks well done, it's sharp, I find no real technical fault. As for my opinion of the photo itself...if you like it that's all that matters, I don't find much impact and feel it to be more of a documentary type shot I guess...nothing wrong with that. I do not dislike bikes but this holds little interest for me.

I'd have taken the shot too.

But it'd have turned out to have the same issues: interesting subject in too-contrasty light, good colors for the available lighting conditions, not a compelling composition.

What I would hope I had done while on the site: shoot more, from different angles, isolating patterns, lines and colors, and some with as shallow a DOF as possible.

If I'd brought it home just like this (which I well might have done)? I'd probably try some crops, some crazy color and monochrome processing, and for the full shot as is, I'd straighten that left vertical and keep the others vertical too, no matter how I had to do it, and I'd fight off the excess contrast of the shadows. The latter is just a bias I have with mid-day shooting in contrasty light, which I never shy away from, but then do battle with in post till I resolve it to my own satisfaction.

Thanks, good points. I do have some tightly cropped shots ran through fractalius that are kinda freaky.

Why don't you add one to the thread, I'd love to see it (having no idea what fractalius is either )

Yikes, I see what you mean!

I like parts of it, but the furry curly things are too weird.

Is there some way to control that stuff?

Wow, no caffeine needed after viewing - lol. I think it's wonderful to be adventurous with pp and effects. The moments of delightful surprise are well worth the non-keepers...not saying that this is not a keeper for some

I think there is a similar plug-in, Specktral art? I've seen several posted in gallery and some are super-interesting to me.

It's probably obvious I've never cared about whether effects are one-click or two or 12 with selective masking. If it takes you four hours and 50 layers, I'm still either gonna just like it or not; the amount of work done does not factor into the pleasure or lack thereof.

Oh yeah, sure. There are various ways of doing it, this was the glow slider. The good thing about it is you can actually use it to sharpen your photo and work out your own presets.
