No need to worry. If there is a Liberal President in office at the time he/she will most likely have moved the manufacturing plant to make the vehicles to Mexico or Pakistan.

BOGUS!!!
When you're in a autonomous vehicle you're still supposed to be alert and ready to take the controls in an instant. You are NOT supposed to be reading the morning paper, texting your friends or any other activities that distracts you from the potential hazards of the road...

Exactly what they said about the horse and buggy when cars first arrived.

So, then we should eliminate all planes, all subway cars, buses and trains, all bicycles, even tell people to stop walking so we can pile everyone in single occupant cars. What a hog wash article.

Self driving vehicles and electric vehicles will never completely take over, because they will never be affordable to the average man or woman on the street. See how fast all of these alternative vehicles drop off the face of the earth when there are no government incentives to compel the consumer the buy and drive them.

There will never be a time in my life that I won't have my hands on the wheel unless I'm a passenger , and that does not include being a passenger to a computer program . Ridiculous .
I feel the same way about the excessive use of autopilot in an airplane .
I drive , I fly .
And if some liberal wacko is President , yes , the jobs will continue to bleed off shore . Manufacturing in the USA will cease to exist under the weight of hyper regulation .
Last year , Obama put into place nearly 3,000 more regulations , in all forms . Great way to stimulate economic growth !
I'd like a self driving car to take him and Hillary Clinton for a long ride South , because if she gets in in November , we will all be taking that ride !

And the oil companies buy up the patents to keep them off the roads.

Not all jobs....waiting for inspection sticker, overheard discussion between salesman, mechanic and manager regarding pros and cons of increased repair work volume due to new vehicles loaded with technology (the more loaded being the ones with more problems). Claim they aren't yet up to speed on training to be knowledgeable enough to have all the answers but they are getting the work because dealerships can't solve all problems either. Customers are frustrated and looking for answers even though warranty in force. Attitude of repair shop is in concert with dirtpusher (...you're still supposed to be alert and ready to take the controls in an instant. You are NOT supposed to be reading the morning paper, texting your friends or any other activities that distracts you from the potential hazards of the road...) but they like the cash.

Welp. It's another blow for humans seeking jobs. Technology, office phone answering systems (press#1 for an office directory), security systems and cameras, frobots doing manufacturing work, self-checkouts at supermarkets, self pay at parking lots, drones for delivery, computer software, the internet, just a roll off a few without thinking too hard, have already eliminated millions of jobs. Here's more bad news from a CNN article-

Five million jobs in the world's leading economies could disappear over the next five years because of advances in technology.
Developments in artificial intelligence, robotics, and biotechnology, would disrupt the business world in a similar way to previous industrial revolutions, the World Economic Forum said in a report published Monday.
Administrative and white collar office jobs are most at risk from a "fourth industrial revolution," the forum said on the eve of its annual meeting in Davos this week.
The impact of the tech revolution is the central topic of this year's gathering of the world's leaders and major business figures in the Swiss mountain resort.
The forum surveyed senior executives from over 350 of the biggest companies in 15 of the world's major emerging and developed economies. Together, those economies account for 65% of the global workforce.

It found that as many as 7.1 million jobs in the world's richest countries could be lost through redundancy and automation. Those losses would be partially offset by the creation of 2.1 million new opportunities in sectors such as tech, professional services and media.
Countries will have to invest in transforming their workforce if they want to keep up with the changes and avoid a worse case scenario of "talent shortages, mass unemployment and growing inequality," said Klaus Schwab, the founder and chairman of the World Economic Forum.
Investing in education and adult learning programs is a good place to start.
Around 65% of children starting primary school today will end up working in jobs that don't yet exist, and their future training is crucial, according to the report.
Insisting on more diverse workforces in terms of gender, ethnicity and age, will also be vital for companies that want to succeed in the rapidly changing world.

Oh, you know that's going to happen. What's supposed to be and what is are two different concepts. The other night on my way home from work I, along with many other drivers, came upon a rolling road block, on a freeway. As the group of cars made its way around this vehicle my turn eventually came. There was the driver having an intense conversation on a cell phone, oblivious to the number of cars speeding past.

All I can say is they'd better produce cars brighter than those who are sitting there operating them.

Interesting.
Some large aircraft are virtually "self flying" yet 2 pilots are still required to be on board.
These cars are self driving yet the Uber car still requires a driver to be present.
I do not see this coming too soon to be "driverless" They will self drive but still will need a driver to be present.
Also I doubt any time soon a self driving car can successfully take my Jeep through the Sierra Hanchas.
