Large Computer Parts

As parts arrive for my new computer, I'm surprised at the size of some of them. I've always gotten Dell towers, so I wanted a tower, not a mini or a mid-tower. After spending a lot of time looking at various products and dimensions, I lost track of sizes and weights. I ordered an NZXT Phantom in red (cheaper than other colors). UPS left it by the front door, and when I picked it up, I thought it was a complete computer. It weights 24 pounds, plus the packaging! I don't think my complete Dell weighs that much. It's 24" high, 27" deep, and almost 12" wide, with several large fans inside. Now I have to find a place to put it because it's not going to fit where I have my Dell.

I also got a cooling unit for the CPU. I had seen similar units on my computers, but this is nothing like them. It's probably 8" high, 6" wide, and 4" thick. I'll have to put this computer on wheels so I can move it around the house.

The one part that is smaller than expected is the "drive." I got a Samsung M.2 256GB SSD. It's tiny - about half the size of a memory card.

Pictures to follow.

Just remember Jerry, this is a photography forum. Do not ask us any questions about building your new computer!

A lot of Jerry's posts are about his computers and the problems he has with them so he probably will be asking for help.

Somebody suggested a while ago, since Jerry has so many posts on UHH that he should have his own forum.

Did you not notice you are in the general chit chat non photography portion of this website. Wish people would read instead of asuming.

This position is non photography talk. You can talk about the cows in your pasture if you like

Sounds like a good set up jerry. Congrats on new toy.

That IS a BIG case! That's about twice the depth and width of any of my cases, and several of mine have 4 HDs + DVD drive

You know what's funny, I had a computer post of some kind in Chit-Chat a while back, and it was moved to the Main section. I thought that was odd.

If we keep politics out of the discussion, it should remain here.

This is UHH and nobody, NOBODY, can make a comment other than what the dirtpushers and some others will allow without incurring their wrath.
Most of your numbers are in the Attic (I checked your profile) which I avoid like the plague.

Jerry is a valuable contributor to the forum. He regularly posts positive and helpful links and never has a negative, rude or snarky comment. In my opinion, we need more like him. And as Dirtpusher said, this is the general chit chat section, so chit chat about computers (which seems to be a goodly portion of questions on all forums of The Hog) should be welcome.

Welcome to the world of full tower computing. You should never run out of room for backup drives.

Now that you mention it, if I add a couple of backup drives, would they be spinning all the time the computer is running? I have two externals that I turn on only when I do backups.
