Hi all, I am new to this site and enjoying reading the posts and looking at your photos. Since I am new to photography, I am learning a lot by many of the discussions. I have taken a photo 1 class and plan to take a photo 2 class this fall. This is a new hobby for me in my recent retirement. I currently shoot with a Nikon D3200 and use mostly the 55-300 lens as I love photographing birds and nature. However, I would LOVE to get more reach, around 500-600 mm....maybe someday. I am finding this can be an expensive hobby. Right now I am just working with what I have and enjoying being out exploring and taking photos in my local area. I have attached a couple of my most recent photos of a great blue heron that takes residence down the street from where I live. Also a couple from the sunflower pics from the down street. That will be it for today. Very little post processing has been done on these as I have not learned lightroom, just cropped a bit and a little color enhancement.

Welcome to a wonderful hobby!

For greater reach, without digging too deep into your wallet, why not get a set of extension tubes? I got a set of "Xit XTETN Auto Focus Macro Extension Tube Set for Nikon SLR Cameras" from Amazon for $43.

Welcome to UHH Sue, and to retirement and photography.
Very nice photographs, I especially like #2 and #3. Catching the bees in #3 is a nice touch.
If you are looking for a longer lens consider the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR. Recently bought one and though I have only been out with it a couple of times, I am very happy with it. Also, the cost is very reasonable.

I did not know this was an option. Will look into it. Does it affect the clarity of the pictures?

I have looked into this lens, however, it is a bit expensive for me, over $1,000, on my SS budget. That being said it is on my wish list as I have heard lots of good things about this lens. I will start saving my pennies. Thanks for the reply.

Welcome. Yes, photography on a budget can be accomplished, but it is hard at times. Glass, bodies, and accessories are expensive. While a really inexpensive item that can really make your photos stand out from the crowd is "composition".

Looking forward to seeing more of your work. Again, welcome.
