Picasa supports various file formats such as .JPG, .BMP, .FIG, .PNG, .TGA, .TIFF, .WEBP and .RAW. Also you can set Picasa to backup photos from your PC and new photos from camera to Google+ Photos. After importing, Picasa Editor will show you a welcome web page with links to basic instructions for using the application.

Picasa

Google officially discontinued the Picasa software in April of 2016. Google Photos is the recommended solution for your lifetime of photos uploaded to the cloud, but if you still have a computer with pictures on it, Picasa is the best free computer software Not bragging!

I had always used Picasa and found it to be both useful and fast. However, do to a crash on my laptop I lost Picasa and cannot find a way to get it back? It still works just fine, here, on the desk top but with a wedding to do this weekend, 700miles from home its going to be a real challenge to start a new with some other software. Not really a question here I guess more just an unhappy statement unless someone knows how I can get the Picasa from my desktop to work on the laptop :-)

I downloaded it in May. I see that the latest version is still available for download.
Last Picassa Download version 3.9...
You can still download a copy of Picasa 3.9 B 141.259 at: http://filehippo.com/download_picasa/

If you have trouble, I can make the 14 MB install file available.

Many people use and love Picasa, but it was always a light weight program with few advanced features and very limited controls for adjusting exposure. One cannot argue with the price of course, but free is not necessarily better, or even good. Although it's intuitive and easy to use, it's really not ready for prime time. It's intended for light PP users who don't want want to invest any money or a lot of time learning a more robust software package This is not a condemnation, but compared to commercial software, and even some freeware like Gimp, it is mediocre at best. In the end, you get what you pay for.

got it back, thank you for your help. I said thanks before but its not showing and I sure do want to thank you. To others who complain its not sophisticated I say your right. However, I do my very best to get what I want in camera and adjust what I have to trying to make the photo look as much like what I saw with my eye at the time as I can. I have no interest in cooking the photo or making something of it that it never was and for that Picasa seems to work just fine, most of the time.

Actually, you can. When you have a photo open in Picasa, you right-click, click on "open with", and PS comes up as one of the choices.

I agree, Warrior. I am hanging onto my Picasa at least until I master GIMP.

I use Picassa mostly for cataloging and storage. For occasional photo manipulation I use commercial programs.

Can Gimp be used for cataloging?

Thanks
