Just for shins and grits, this started as a result of a thread about jpeg vs RAW, and I wanted to see what I could recover from an unrecoverable shot. I cannot tell you what I did but it was taking on a grunge look so I went at it randomly with PSE Elements to adjust exposure, crop and adjust colors, DeNoise6 (yes, this is after max denoising), Picasa to clone out some bright spots, Portrait Pro to change lighting on the face, and I don't know what else. The second picture is straight out of camera.

Thank you for your comment, Mom. I forgot to mention that in this place I use bounce flash at half or quarter power and short bursts. This is one where the flash didn't fire. 
BTW, that's Eric Bennett, lead guitar for Iron Butterfly. He's a Portland native and gets together with guys he played with in high school when not on tour.
