After an eight day trip through five Western States, most of it in the passenger seat, and over 1000 clicks of the shutter, I have added greatly to my collection of Photography at Interstate Speed (mainly 80 mph).
Presenting this one FYC and CC.

Massively terrifying! I think it's a terrific picture (although had I made it I think I'd make it a little brighter). What I think makes it is the loooooooming threeeeeeeaaaaat that the thing will veer into our lane, or our driver will be distracted for the fraction of a second it takes (at 80) to veer into its lane, and that's all she wrote. I'm not sure which is worse: passing one, or having one pass. Your shot is excellent, especially in the terror it evokes in one who has traveled many thousands of miles.

Thank you for your comments Chuck. I stopped on the brightening where I did, not wanting to make it look too cheerful...

Though the subject is huge and has interest as a construction monstrosity of form, the image suffers from being shot through the car windshield : color is off from the tinting, it is less sharp than you probably hoped for, and the splatted bug spots are distracting. The tilt seems rather appropriate, though. Of course, it is possible that all these things are precisely your point - to show the world through the windshield at interstate speed! If the latter, congrats and job well done! At any rate, thank you for sharing your trip, and please share some of the others as well, the West is a grand place for photography and I wish I lived close enough to see more of it.

Terrific perspective for maximum impact!
strong color with impending crush!
Impact is all!
A definite strong stroll-stopper!
Likely would be in contention for placing among the ribbons in any local or even regional photo show!

Thank you Dave. Of all the photos I had on my list for three to enter, this one was not even in contention even though it's one of my favorites from the trip. Entries were due the day we got back, so ended up not submitting anything.

Thank you for your comments Minnie. Under the circumstances, perfection is the last thing on my mind. This was basically a slap-shot. We were going considerably faster, and as we came up on it I just had time to hold the camera angled up lower that the dash, pressed the shutter, and hoped for the best.

Believe me, I understand! I keep my camera close at hand when we travel, and I've tried most everything anyone can think of to get on-the-fly shots. I learned a lot from Jim Hill too, though never became half as good at it. If you have never looked at his drive by series, you may want to track them down via his topics started. I miss his offerings here.

The perspective is awesome and jaw-dropping, Neil. Great impact (definitely not a pun - lol)

Without your written info, though, we don't know this is a high-speed interstate photo. Because of the lack of visual clues, I'm thinking a series of drive-by shots, in a storytelling mode, would be interesting and fun.

I have a series of our rapid transit of the Yakima Valley in mind. So many interesting (at least to me), scenes along your freeway! And at the rest stops. But don't know if it wouldn't be more appropriate in the Gallery than in FYC?

It'll be fun to see through your eyes, Neil!

As mentioned above, a definite attention getter. I don't find it distracting that it was shot through a windshield. The color might be a bit off; but I don't think it is about the color. It is more about the potential for disaster while still having to "get the job done". I like it very much.

We'd welcome your photo story here Neilds. I have posted groups of images like that many times here, as Photo Stories, Sense of Place or just Collections like the Working in NOLA thread that I put up yesterday. As someone who's done it, and gotten feedback, I'll share this: be prepared for feedback not just on the images, but also (and maybe moreso) on how the images work together as a collection, everything from aspect ratio to common processing styles to sequence). I have learned a lot from the feedback I got on these about how to structure a set of images that are presented together. I like to think I'm getting a little better at it, but I won't swear to it!

So do bring em on!
