Some photographers take photographs others make photographs. Both methods have merits.

Which method do you practice.

I try to compose, etc., to make a picture. Sometimes though, like most, I take a picture, commonly called, I think, a Snap-Shot. To me, there is a difference.

I think there is a lot of room for interpretation in this question.

I try to take good pictures and not count on "making" them later in PP. I work on exposure and composition when I am shooting, not that I always get it right but I try. On the other hand, in PP I do tweak exposure, crop and use sharpening, etc. to "make" the finished picture the best I can. I seldom, if ever, have a shot that is so good OOC that I can't make some improvement.

To me, the definition of making a picture would be more along the lines of advanced PP that includes more extreme alterations. Just my thoughts.

I always take photographs (pressing the shutter button etc).
Very rarely i will great a 'scene' to be photographed.

I also create images (not photographs).

As with film, which seems like generations ago, I attempt to get the best image I can when I take the photo. However, I almost always need to crop which I attempt to take into consideration when I compose, and perhaps some exposure compensation (highlites and shadows), sometimes I need to make my photos.

In other words, I try to "take" my photographs the best I can. However, there are times I need to take my photos and "make" them via digital techniques.

Finally, is this any different than what I did when I was shooting film? I don't think so!

I tend to follow Ansel Adams philosophy. "You don't take a photograph, you make it."

I do both, but, unlike most doctors, I've gotten beyond the practice stage. As the old man said to the convenience store clerk, "Depends."

I always record. But I agree... Taking a picture is just a point-and-grab thing. Making a photograph is a deliberate process involving lots of consideration.

Once your satisfied with what you see in the viewfinder and push the shutter button the camera doesn't know the difference between "take" or "make". The camera merely records what you want it to.
