Bob this one is not working for me. The cloud darkening into the ground does not have enough detail to hold my interest. I also cannot tell if the center darkness is rain or shadow so get confused there. Just my opinion you understand.

I can't figure this one out. Dark cloud hanging over our heads? Rain? What is it? I'm interested but confused, and that could be either a good thing or a bad one depending on what you are wanting to show.

I love the puffy clouds in the distance.

Frank and Minnie, The obvious clouds were a storm moving into the area. Off to the right is a wall of dust, part of a dust storm moving from the right of the photograph. The darkened area towards the center was the shadow cast by clouds directly behind me. The shadow was made visible by the amount of dust in the air at the time. It was visually interesting to see all of that occurring at the same time.

Dust! I wouldn't have guessed, probably because we don't have those conditions and I haven't stumbled on them elsewhere. That makes it even more interesting.

We get little dust devils in wide open fields in the delta, but they are very white, and much smaller than this.

Thanks for the explanation Bob I can understand how that would force some shutter activations.

Minnie,
We get dust devils here, as well. There is one area just south of me that they are quite prevalent. Like your area, this is quite open and flat. The desert area radiates a lot of the heat, those updrafts are the cause of the dust devils. Some are strong enough to move a car around a little bit, at least enough to know one has driven through one.

Like min and Frank, I found this confusing Bob, even annoying in a way! Years ago I had an Edixa with a focal plane shutter that, after a lot of use, started to slow down as it went across, giving an exposure that varied across the width of the image - and that's what this shot reminds me of - damned annoying! I too would never have guessed the dust element - but I can see why it was interesting enough to record.
