I have been asked to take a family portrait of the "outlaw" side of the family.
5 of the 7 are overweight so trying to pose them so that is not so obvious is going to be an interesting opportunity. I did the same part of the family several years ago, did nothing special and they thought the result was great. However, I don't think the same approach is going to work this time. Ideas?.
Thanks

Mark

Are they interested in a serious formal type portrait?
If not, and they have a good sense of humor, maybe try something comically environmental.
Pose them around several Harleys.
Pose them in front of a mobile home (trailer) with maybe junk all over.
Have them all hold guns, maybe have spent shotgun shells and cartridge casings all around the ground.
Have them all eating fast food, or drinking beer with empties strewn about.
Stick them all in a (too small) boat.
Go to a local playground and put everybody on the kiddy swings and such.
Dress 'em all in tuxes and gowns but pose them in front of a cheesy bar or diner.

I dunno, depends on what they might be up for.
Just a few ideas anyway.

They are into guns, so that is a great idea!
Thanks

You might want to google this to get some ideas; there are many ways to pose people to minimize body issues.

Photo mentor recommended shoot from elevated position, with short DOF, which will make the faces the most prominent feature their faces.

don't have them straight on towards the camera! angle them,
make them wear dark solid colors no prints or plaids. dark t shirts and jeans????
tuck the "larger" one behind someone if you can!. find a location that has lots of different sized rocks and have fun with tucking someone slightly behind it!good luck!

Make sure the guns aren't loaded! One unfortunate comment and you might be a dead man! Or worse yet, they'll shoot your camera!

maybe just find a couple of large trees and position them behind the trees leaning out hides a lot of body and you can get several behind each tree staggered so you only actually see the head and shoulders. Just a thought.

i did one of a very heavy family...took all kinds of poses...camera only produces images from what it sees. ended up kinda funny....cut all their heads off and photoshopped them on skinny bodies. this crazy family photo ended up a 24 x 36 on the living wall above the fireplace.

this heavy family recommended me to another heavy family....for theirs, i cut off their heads and pasted the heads right on top of their shoes (no body parts). was pretty funny. they loved it.

the heavy duty shots had a heavy duty price tag...but they didn't care.

well if you are going to cut heads off and put them on skinny bodies, just use liquify on PS and use their own bodies

hahahahah.........tooooooo much to liquify...these people are 450+.

liquify would have made it much easier for me....and for some reason...they wanted it "realistic". go figure!!!

liquify is one of my most used tools in pshop. even slim women want slimmed more.

Be sure to have them sit/stand at a 45 degree angle. Even skinney little girls look like football players if they are square with the camera. Also get the close together like an accordian. - Dave
