If you could swing another lens before the trip I would look at the 14-140 Panasonic. I took that lens to Asia on a GH3 and I think I took it off twice to use a 7.5 fisheye. Remember, that's a 28-280 lens in practice.

I am traveling to Sicily with my wife on a two week tour and visiting her grandparent’s village I plan on taking my Olympus OM D E M 10 with the pancake 14-42 lens. I am most familiar with my Nikon D7100’s and various lenses. I have used the Olympus for mostly social situations and family gatherings
My pictures will be snapshots and not art photos. My question, is there any need to take the 14-150 lens? I have not used it much since my use of the Olympus has been in social indoor situations.
The 14-150 is very small (3.5 in by 2 in) and light (plastic).
Your opinions and advice would be appreciated.

Sounds ideal. Some of your best subjects are going to be people and street scenes. You might want a bit wider for landscapes, so another wide prime might be a consideration.

Have the exact same camera two lens combo. given the small/compact nature of the kit, find a place to slip the 40-150 into. Even if you only use it a few times, you will be glad you did. Love mine.

I really like a slightly longer lens so that I can do people photos from a comfortable distance.

I definitely agree. I love my Tamron 28-300 for travel. No need to change lenses, you can shoot the exterior and interior of those beautiful Sicilian churches, and then go close on the stained glass windows or altar. And then here are those great people shots you can get without being conspicuous. Maximum versatility; that's my mantra.

I took a DSLR with 18-55 and 55-200 lenses to Sicily two years ago and used both. Carried a bridge camera as a backup and, although I didn't need it, it was comforting to have it.

I apologize for my earlier postings incorrect description of the lenses I was talking about the Olympus pancake 14- 42 and the Olympus 40 - 150. Again these will be pictures of my wife's grandparents home village and snapshots on the tour. This will be a see and experience trip rather than a photographic trip.

Another consideration is that I am amazed by the number of people that are so involved in video that they only see the video screen and miss the live experience. ( Just go to your grandchild's performance at a school program.) This my also apply to still pictures. I once was an elementary school principal and could not believe how many parents were occupied with video and pictures rather than seeing the children live instead of a screen on their camera. I set up a staff member to video programs and offer parents etc. copies of the video for the minimal cost of replicating them.
