PNY 32GB High Speed SDHC (problem)

D7000, periodically with this new class 10 card I'm getting an "ERR" reading, then can't release shutter; when I turn off the camera, info continues to be shown on top control panel where info is displayed. Only way to correct is to remove card, reinsert, and then may work properly for a while. I've not run into this with my PNY 4 GB, class 4, at any time. I returned the first 32GB when this problem happened thinking it was damaged. This second one is causing the camera to do the same. Would appreciate your thoughts.

Read page 319 of your manual. It lists the cards that have been tested and work properly with the D7000, there are many cards out there that will not, especially at 32GB. I have had some PNY products in the past and will not use them any more, never had one of their cards last very long.
The other problem right now is that as many as half of the memory cards bought on the internet are counterfeit, and are often just 1 or 2GB off-brand cards with a name brand label pasted onto them. Stick with name brand cards from reputable sellers and you won't go wrong.
I had a friend who got a "killer deal" on 4 Lexar Pro II 16GB Class 10 SDHC cards for only $32 shipped on Ebay. She kept asking me why she cannot get very many images recorded on them. I finally got a look at the cards and they were blue, and Lexars Pro series are always black. I peeled off a label and underneath was a label that read "Cosmos 2GB". So much for good Ebay deals!!!

I too had a bad experience with this brand. Will never use again.

That's a frustrating problem to have.
My first thought is that you may be inadvertently doing something to corrupt a file, (like turning the camera off when it is still writing to the card.) Like many newer cameras, maybe the D7000 prevents that from happening (?)
Are you formatting the card each time you use it?
Have you written to the card in any way from your computer and did not reformat it in the camera?
Since it is unlikely that you got two bad cards, my next thought is whether the card can keep up with your camera when taking bursts of still or taking video (?)
My experience with memory cards has been painful over the years. There are no bargains. Like many things photographic, you seem to get what you pay for. PNY has never been anything but a lower price product.
Right now I'm having excellent performance with SanDisk cards. Lexar Professional series seems to be having a few glitches lately; I experienced two which was two too many. So far SanDisk is batting 1000 for me.

Thx for the info.
I purchased the PNY cards from BJ's (similar to SAM's), and yes I did read page 319, just figured the brand of card would not be an issue as I'd had no issues with the 4GB PNY.
MT Shooter, are you a SanDisk user also?
I don't remove the card, use the cord, to transfer and normally format the card after each time, but bought the large capacity card thinking I'd save everything on the card and avoid formatting so frequently, not knowing if that might have some adverse effect. Price of 32BG was $49. then there was a $10. inst.rebate. Thx again SO VERY Much for your help, wonderful to a place to come to for expert advise.

I use both SanDisk and Lexar, never had a problem with either one of them. I also have a pair of Kodak 16GB Class 10 cards I bought at a local Office Depot on Clearance. I found out SanDisk makes the Kodak cards for them, so $15 each was too good of a deal to pass up. They have worked great so far too.

I doubt you will get the chance on that trip, but you REALLY need to stop in at B&H Photo if you can, its an AMAZING place to walk around in!

I use Nikon, D7000 etc. and have a few times had the odd problem. Even with quite expensive card. However I started to use Micro Center house brand cards, from 2 to 16 gig and have never had any kind of a problem with these. The run from class 5 to class 10 speed is not too important for me as I tend to spend a bit of time thinking about the next image. But in a word these have been an inexpensive blessing for me. Sorry for muddying up the waters.

WARNING: Leave your credit card at home if visiting B&H.
It seems like the world's largest photographic / audio / video candy store and I always end up making an impulsive purchase. At least with a catalog or on line, I can mull it over for a while.
It is indeed an interesting place to visit, and I agree with MT Shooter, it is not to be missed if in the area!

No, am sure I won't get to B & H this time, probably no time, and shouldn't spend more on MY hobbie. Would love it tho, I'm sure; actually would make me miserable. Already feel quite blessed to have the D7000, but surely would like to have the Sigma 150-500 f5-6.3 that someone suggested some time back. You, being from MT have a wealth of scenic possibilities; PA seems a bit boring by comparison.
Actually I was the one who got this bus trip together; should have thought of a stop at B&H, but don't believe any one else would have been interested.

I have travelled through PA a few times, never got to stop for much as the Highway system there seems, well shall we say, unfriendly? But I have seen lots of river scenics that are very nice.
Since you organized the trip, maybe you could arrange for a minor bus "breakdown" on the same block as B&H and have to kill an hour while repairs are made, by the driver of course.
Sneaky is sometimes good! LOL
(And they stock that Sigma, its where I bought mine, via mail order of course.)
