While we were staying at Lewis and Clark caverns there was a nest of Black Headed Grosbeak birds in our campsite....of course I had to take a few photo's. They are really pretty birds with a really weird tear drop shaped nest! If I identified them incorrectly please enlighten me, thanks!

I think what you have is an Altimira Oriole. Last year when were taking a long RV trip we went to Resacas De La Pal Palma State Park in Texas (near South Padre) and at first we saw the nest which was fascinating and the bird guide there told us it was an Altimira nest. A little late one flew by but to quick for a photo.

The grosbeak nest is of the "normal" construction, so I also am voting for one of the oriole species. Fun shots!

what an excellent series and story,Rena. Beautiful color for both Mom & Dad. I haven't a clue about the ID and that tear shaped nest is interesting.
