I would guess you like it because you associate it with warm and happy memories of your vacation, or maybe there's an appealing sense of freedom (from worry and responsibilities) with all that open water, or relaxation (leave your cares at home) ?

I just browsed through a bunch of mine, both that I've posted and not, and I know with each why I like them - that's not to say there is anything in the least of interest to other people

I chuckled when I came across my "minimal birds" in the snow. In the first topic, you said, "you have a whole lot nothing here..." But even before I had help focusing my vision for the final look of that one, I knew what initially attracted me.

Most fall under: happy association (memory) of the moment when I shot; or appealing shapes, colors, textures, certain quality of light that evoke a happy feeling/mood/emotion when I view it - or that I just say about the subject, "how interesting!" A few are more somber, but I usually avoid those because this hobby is such a joy to me.

If memory serves me, there is a scene in Moby Dick where Pip jumps out of a whale boat and they have to abandon the chase to rescue him. The mate says that he will not break off the chase if Pip does it again. Of course he does and finds himself alone in a vast ocean. This makes me think of that.

I have a few that I love, never shared with others, with a story that's personal to me, hard to explain to everyone else. S-

Wow!
I don't know about you but I know exactly why this one grabs me! I feel the water up to my chin...I fear for my camera...and the increible depth of the scene and the contours of the swells between me and the horizon greatly magnify the image's depth!

Great job.

Dave

Yes, Uuglypher has answered it for me - that's exactly why I like both your shot and similar ones of my own taken low down on the water, it's a favourite angle of mine but seldom produces a shot I feel would interest others - perhaps I'm wrong - yours looks great!

I once again am a bit shocked of the interest here. I would like to thank all of you for comment, as I reflect on what’s been said and look back I think the diagonals of the beach and waves is what draws me into this shot. Once again I appreciate the comments.

I like it too, and I think it is because I feel the water. Most water pictures put us in the role of observer from shore or boat. This one makes you think your'e IN it.

I've got a couple I took holding the camera down to water level from a slow moving boat, and I've used one as a screensaver just because it feels good! Very calming after a rough day on the ranch.

No reason to be shocked, Frank; you put forth a very interesting point! I'm hoping to see someone take you up on your offer and post a "I don't know why I like it" image so we can see if we do (and say why) It's much more fun and mentally stimulating to have a unique question or idea in the opening.

I agree with others. You captured the feeling of being in the water. The depth- the volume- the movement. In such situations I would be thinking- Shark!

it has been said.. you are in the water with the low point-of-view. The waves far away are seen like layers of hills one behind the other - you feel the distance, depth. Wave behind wave all the way to the horizon.

If one had a way to protect camera and lens, such shots with spray and wind that draws the water into the atmosphere are awesome.

It brings back the feelings you had when you made the image. It puts you in a place you liked to be. Emotions reign!

I'll have to give it more of a go next time Piet.
