In download, the color and brightness are fantastic. The details of this little cutie (skipper butterfly?) are great. Non-competing background, beautiful light, pleasing composition. In my opinion

Skipper butterfly, probably is, I have no idea, we call them meadow moths. My specialty is Odonata (dragon flies).

Here is a tip if you are still chasing dragons, try early morning, that is when they are most sluggish. They do a lot of sitting and are more approachable.

Thanks, this lens is probably the sharpest lens I have owned, and I have owned quite a few.

Thanks much. If we had dew in summer, I'd be a lot more motivated - lol. Dry and hot, with glaring sun by 7 a.m. is mostly how we go here. That does make for occasional interesting sunrises, and more motivation to visit Mt Rainier area. I saw hummingbirds and mosquitoes (elev. 5,000' and higher) as I was shooting wildflowers, but will have to remember to research other flying insects before next year.

It appears you've got everything right on this one, however I am confused by the metadata. Well done randomeyes.

I checked metadata, shows 300mm???? What? I'm going to have to check this out!
I checked the dragon fly also shows 300mm, I hope my 7d is not going south on me !! A little research is needed. Thanks for the heads up.

Well Frank I discovered the problem, the error message is in my brain, I put on the photos taken with my Canon 100-400 and NOT the 100 Macro, (those are coming )
I took a series of photos with each lens. My apologies to everyone, you see I also drink!!

Did you use anything to stabilize your shot? I often have trouble performing MF with narrow DOF, because moving me puts something else in focus.

added: I guess I read your posts in the wrong order, since you seem to have answered this in the "green darner" thread.

Actually these were taken with a Canon 100-400 mm manually, stabilization off, tried to rest against a tree for the dragonfly, skipper just hand held. They are hard little critters to shoot!

Thank you for the quick response.

One more question: The EXIF shows dimensions of this image to be 1333 x 1200. Does that mean you aggressively cropped the image out of the camera?
