So I am photographing flowers and this guy shows up.
A brown wasp? Must be some sort of Mud Dauber.

Your wasp is not a mud dauber. It's a red wasp, probably a Polistes species that builds regular shaped nests. I've found these guys at home under the eaves of my house, just outside my front door.

A mud dauber has a rather long and very thin "stem" between the thorax and abdomen. Usually they are also a very shiny black color.

I haven't a clue about most of the bugs I find around here. Plants either, for that matter. Anyway, I enjoyed the pics, as usual. If I keep practicing, maybe I can get close to what you bring us here.
