Do you know what the f/stop difference between them means?
At 17mm the Sigma would have a wide open f stop of 2.8 and as you go out to 70mm the f stop increases to 4. The Pentax would be fixed at all focal lengths at 4. I personally prefer Sigma lenses and if you are going to shoot some wide angle in low light the Sigma would be the better choice.

www.lenstip.com The Sigma image resolution is better than Nikon, Pentax, and Canon is last.
This Sigma lens is also superior in edge sharpness over the others.
This makes it good for landscape and architectural work.
This would be a good lens for architectural and landscape to portrait work.

What is the price difference? Also the Pentax lens will have the SDM focusing system, which, when it works is nice.

Here we go again. Which kind of images do you like to capture? Alot of folks ask "which this" or "what that" and it's difficult to give a decent answer if we don't know the specifics. Lens info is easy enough to get, but what exactly, are ya takin' pix of? 8-)

Good point. I would also check
http://www.dxomark.com/ for lens comparisons.
fast glass rules
pretty much end of conversation.
UNTIL you factor in the cost versus budget thing.
QWhat are you willing to spend for the precious F stops?
Much like drag racing SPEED COSTS, how much are you wiulling to spend>???
I vote for the added expense of the faster glass, opinions may vary
I would go with the faster glass also, but since Shelton has not responded as to which images he wants to capture how do we possibly answer this question :?: MORE info, please Shelton. 8-)

Go with the f-4. The cost difference isn't that much and you might like it if you ever upgrade the camera body. Just a thought. 8-)
