FYC. I am a huge fan of Dave Chinn's work, and have tried to emulate his style but with little success. This is the closest I have came.

It really does look like a Dave Chinn. Imitation being the highest form of flattery, I think this is a good tribute. I like it. I like that you centered the subject and everything is sharp and crisp. Cool.

While a well done photo I see no resemblance. Where's the subtle processing nuances, where’s the gentle manipulating of lights and darks, the grain of lack of, just saying…as they say. You have a wonderful b/w photo here, and should be proud of it.

I have to agree with Frank here. Apart from the points he mentioned Dave always appears to concentrate on getting the eyes sharp above all else. The DOF here seems to have the focus point on the nose of the tiger and the eyes just missing the sharpness they need.

Doesn't look a bit like him.

For one his whiskers are longer....and his eyes are closer together.

And he hasn't got big hairy ears.

Looking back over Dave's previous four, it would be hard to compare because his show a variety of tones and other pp.

I do like this image as yours, however! It is quite captivating with the big guy's intelligent eyes and fur patterns. Really nicely done.

Thanks Frank. I do like the image but still want to play with it a little more, especially by adding some grain in certain areas as you suggest.

Thanks for commenting Billyspad. I agree that I missed the focus a little. I took this picture about seven years ago and can't quite remember exactly what I did wrong.

Thank you very much Linda. I'm still going to work on it a little more, if I like it will re-post.

very well done and SO COOL looking tiger! I also attempted to imitate Dave, I made it for two weeks, then just couldn't stand it any longer and shaved.

Hahaha. Thanks for commenting Piet. I did play with the image a little today and added some grain in the light areas and brought out the ears just a little. Looks better but still no Dave Chin I'm afraid.

Thank you Jack !!! Its encouraging to know someone has the same interest as I in post processing. I won't feel like such a loner now, LOL !!! It has taken me some time to get where I'm at and have been discouraged many a time but I kept at it with lots of practice. You'll find that not two images will look the same. It may be close but will be different. Everyone has their own style and it takes time to find it. I was told that and didn't understand but now do.

Your tiger is an interesting subject and I feel there needs to be a little more separation between the tiger and background. Not all of mine have good separation so it all depends on you and how you would want it to be portrayed. The darkness in the tigers face should be feathered a little more around the ears to the background and add some contrast. This is just a suggestion because only you know what the final is to be desired. I have a sample of your tiger and if you would like to see I'll post it, but not without your permission.

I think he's pretty wonderful, and I'd say you've had great success! A powerful, beautiful portrait, deceptively simple. Like some others, I'd like you to pull back a bit of the processing on his ears so they join the rest of his face and give him a little more background separation. Some of our especially keen eyed folks have mentioned the eyes and you should trust their word on it but they look acceptably sharp to me. Keep on sharing your Dave-Chinn look images with us. I have not had the courage to try.
