There were some suggestions on one of the recent posts that suggested how to get Photos from opening everytime you try to import images into Lightroom. I have been trying to locate it without success. Can anyone point me to the post? TIA

I read from Tim Grey that you have to get rid of the app when using lightroom.

If you are reasonably comfortable working with computer commands you can do this:

there is a box on the top of page when it opens up..if i remember correctly you have to uncheck it as the default application so that it isn't the one to open when importing..

The issue with just unchecking is that you have to do that for each device and its after the fact. And a "device" is also a reformatted card. So, plug in your camera/card, Photos opens, uncheck box, open desired software, download images, eject camera/card, reformat card in camera and you need to repeat process all over again.

Thanks, jrhoffman!! That worked.

I had never seen "Terminal" on my computer before. Took a while to find it.

I tried to just delete "Photos" from the machine, and got a message that said OSX 10.11.3 needed it as part of the operating system. Apple software seems to get worse with each upgrade. I upgraded to this version because the latest Lightroom would not run on the old system.

DO NOT DELETE PHOTOS!! from your Apple computer. As mentioned above, there is a work around for this. I need a couple of hours to find the solution and once I did, Photos will not open when I insert a new SD card. I just cannot remember right now what I did, so give me a moment, but please do NOT delete Photos.

OK, I found the solution. When you first insert an SD card into your Mac, Photos will open by default. When it does, you will see a window with an IMPORT tab. Under this menu, back all the way to the left is your SD card file name and a box beside it that says "Open Photos for this device". Now, uncheck that box, close out Photos, unmount your SD card and reinsert into the Mac. You will note that Photos will no longer open with this SD card. I have a stash of 10 SD cards and once I unchecked this box, Photos will not open, no matter which card is inserted now. I reformatted a couple of them just a little while ago and it did not make a difference after being reformatted. The SD cards will still not open Photos. So uncheck that box and have a go yourself. I am attaching a pdf of what the menu looks like after first opening an SD card in Photos with that box checked.
