I have a d7000 and just purchased a tele extender to increase the distance of my 300mm lens. The first set of pics were very blurred and not at all normal.
Did anybody else have that experience? Should I shoot with af off, what else will prevent blurr. Is distortion a fact with extenders.
Thanks
Ed

Is your 300 the F4 or the F2.8? What tele are you using?

Tele's will not work well with kit lenses if thats what you were trying.
Nikons TC-14E will work and give you AF at most settings. The TC-17E and the TC-20E will work but you will not have AF.
Aftermarket Teles are a crap shoot, you never know about compatibility until you try them, and very few will give acceptable results.
You did not mention if you think you have focus blur or motion blur. A tele extender as you probably know adds a full F stop to your exposure setting and doubles the effective focal length of your lens. You could be experiencing motion blur from too slow shutter speed.
2x extender= 2 stop reduction in light (F4 becomes an f8)
1.4x or 1.5x is 1 stop reduction (f4 becomes an f5.6)
Thanks for correcting me on that. Haven't used one since my Pentax Spotmatic days.

That was a great camera! A Classic. I owned Nikon almost from the begining, but had a chance to buy a Spotmatic kit.
Not quite as rugged but great lenses and easy to use.
Sold it to a friend.
I loaned mine to my daughter for her senior trip [1986] to the Virgin Islands where it was stolen from a rented van. Wish I had it today for the 50mm, f1.4 to use with my E-M5.
I just posted a image of the moon with your exact setup d7000 300 f4 Nikon 2x converter
http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-40775-1.htmlif your images are soft it is most likely a shutter speed that is too slow for the focal length of the lens
since many times i shoot at 800 iso and f 11.0,loosing a stop or 2 is no big deal.the thing i really need to do is keep track of my settings for each shot.

Try this for focusing:
1.) On a tripod, set-up your camera for desired composition;
2.) Go to Live View;
3.) Use "+" button to digitally "zoom-in" to scene;
4.) critically focus lens while viewing enlarges Live View;
5.) Trip shutter;
6.) Without changing any settings, use eyepiece to re-focus same scene;
7.) Trip shutter again.
Under enlargement on your PC, compare both images.
