Thanks for a great review. How do you test your lenses to make sure you have a good one? I am afraid I wouldn't be able to differentiate between a lens problem and a "me" problem.

That was one of the best comprehensive comparisons of lenses I have seen to date. I'm in a similar dilemma as far as choosing a long zoom and would love to see this same comparison to the Sigma 150-600 sport.

I've never used the Sigma Sport model, so I can't really speak to it one way or another. I understand it's very sharp and on par with the Nikon 200-500. I also think it's got better weather sealing, but again, no first hand experience.

In this case, I was comparing to the 300PF. From the reviews I read, I knew the lenses should be close, but they just weren't. When I test, I do so with a tripod, live view, mirror up, cable release, the works. While the second lens was closer, the first lens was really, obviously out. No way anyone would have missed it. With the second lens, it was better, but I still wasn't seeing the kind of sharpness with it I had been seeing online or what I was used to with large glass. Just no fine details resolving, that sort of thing.

As I mention the video, I like to think I just was really unlucky, but Photography Life also tested this lens and had 2 bad out of 5.
