So true.

BTW, I have one aluminum 35mm canister full of thumbtacks, one full of straight pins, one full of paper brads, one full of... They're a reminder of my uncle, a pharmacist who gave me an Argus Seventy-Five camera at age 4-1/2. They were in one of his camera cases when I inherited them back in 1967.

Very sharp stopped down 1-2 stops. I think Nikon mounts have AF confirmation.

Hey Hoggers. I've been researching a lens for portraits and come upon a Samyang 85mm f/1.4 Aspherial lens new for $269. Anyone with experience using this lens? Is it any good? The price seems to be really cheap compared to any others I've found. Plan to use it mainly for portraits. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

When you get your D7100 back, then get the Nikon 85mm f/1.8 D lens, available used from reputable dealers for around $325. You will be very happy.

85mm is a good choice for portraiture as "normal, ie: 50mm" will distort facial features such as making a nose seem larger than it really is.....

It depends on whether the lenses are used on an APS-C (DX) camera or full frame (FX).

If used too close, such as a tight portrait with a 50mm on FF, yes there will be perspective distortions.... so an 85mm to 135mm would be better.

However, if using an APS-C camera a 50mm might be a great choice, serving as a short telephotos instead of as a "normal". Can be better than 85mm on APS-C if shooting indoors without a lot of working space.
