Anyone with a Sony A99 Tethering ? Is tethering worth the effort ? I am hoping it may help with vision for focus. Any information welcome.
If you're saying you want to use the tethered screen as a focus aid, I'm not sure that will work.
Tethering is about getting the taken image onto a larger screen for evaluation and maybe doing some quick editing in the Raw processor.
If you want a larger view of the pre-capture image, Sony does a 5" screen you can attach to the hot shoe.
Of course, i may have interpreted your post incorrectly.
Hi Peekayoh thanks for your reply. You are correct i thought you could get a live feed with tethering. I will look into your suggestion of Sony screen. Here in Australia we often dont see a lot of accessories
that are available overseas. Thanks again for the help. Yvonne
On my A-77 when plugged into a tv with the hdmi jack I get a live look at what the camera is capturing including focusing. Obviously you're not gonna be hauling a tv all over but maybe hooked to a tablet?
Thanks bruce that opens up choices . will try with a laptop . My tablet doesnt have a HDMI port . Yvonne
I'm wondering, under what conditions do you have difficulty focusing?
You have aids like "Focus Peaking" and "Focus Magnify" to help in Manual Focus mode (presumably why you want an enlarged image) and that's assuming that AF mode fails to nail the focus even with "AF Micro Adjust" correctly calibrated for your lens.
declining vision and bifocal glasses. Using manual focus is difficult I hoped the larger screen would help . I will read up on the calibration etc . Thankyou helpful advice. Yvonne

I have the same problems and dislike using bifocals when using the camera. Instead I wear Contacts (only when out with the camera) which facilitate use of the Viewfinder with appropriate adjustment of the dioptre wheel. I also carry a pair of cheap reading glasses for reading a menu, for instance.
I honestly don't think you will gain much advantage with a larger screen unless in a Studio situation or on a tripod maybe. You can't beat the steadiness with the camera pressed against the eyebrow and the exclusion of light gives a nice bright EVF.
Regarding calibrating a lens with the AF Micro Adjust; this is somewhat problematical with a zoom lens because the adjustment will change as you zoom. AF Micro Adjust is essential with fast primes.
Thankyou Peekayoh your input is greatly appreciated ,i will follow up on your suggestions. Yvonne
