What do you think of "Designer name" cameras?
Of course, I am not an expert, not to I always think! However, the article points out that the camera has technical virtues for the "Photographer." Forget the Yellow, if there camera were black, would it be a good camera? Yes.
Regarding the "Bling" of the camera... hay if you have much dealing with the young (I taught, and now Sub) you will find that adding color to M&M brown candy make it taste better, sell better, more nutritious and and and.. they like it. If they like, it sells, this puts a sophisticated camera in the hands of the young that is more powerful than the camera in there cell. Thus, Pentax has taken a great step toward upgrading the future of photography in Bling America!
Long live Bling, Long live Marketing, Long live Capitalism, Long live America.
I think the Designer Camera is a very funny idea, but manufacturers of everything from pens to Airstream trailers have hired famous designers to re-do their products. Why not cameras? In a few years, they could be worth a fortune. Or not.
dpullum made a very astute observation. Years ago I put blue dye into some waffle batter to see what the kids would do. I must admit that even though they tasted just like regular waffles, the Smurf blue color took the fun out of eating waffles. And there will always be people that buy something just because some famous name person cashed a big fat check in exchange for sticking their name onto the product. Remember the Air Jordan shoes? Regular shoes that cost extra because of the name. And a few years back for little of nothing I bought a Chinese made "Calvin Klein" pencil and pen set at Wal Mart. Certainly a lot of prestige there to say the least. And I can't describe how important I felt after tearing open the box.

The big question is, did you write better with the CK pencil and pen?

MW - there isn't anything "designer" in my life. And a camera that boasts "...in Marc Newson designed packaging and with the Marc Newson designed strap..."? What do you do with the packaging - pitch. Strap?? Give me a break. Also not sure how a "yellow" jacket will allow the street photographer to blend (also presents a good target for thieves); at least there is the black option. Pentax has a good rep; unclear how designer-anything helps any product, except boost the price. My two cents worth. Thanks for the post, though.
Camera specs look good, but I wouldn't be caught dead with that bright yellow thing.
My daughters(and the wife as well) would love it though.
No, the CK pen and pencil made no difference at all in my writing prowess. My kids tell me my signature looks like an EKG. And my mom's looks like a flat line EKG.
So in conclusion, no one seems to be too impressed by the technical data of this camera, as no one has mentioned it ... except hlmichel "specs look good."
And most of you wouldn't be too excited about carrying around a bright yellow camera. I can see how it might be useful if shooting in a dark environment, like a cave. Or perhaps in a nightclub, where bling is cool.
Well, humm, look at this way, you are in a rough neighborhood in BA argentina... who would be dumb enough to steal a bright yellow camera.. a "red flag" item... ALSO, they would look and say not worth stealing because it must be kids junk to be bright yellow... whatcha think

Don't feel bad , mine look like chicken scratchings.
Bloody silly. Look at the red stripe on Nikons.
Cheers,

dpullum has come up with another great idea, take a high quality, top of the line camera and make it look like a dime store novelty to reduce the chance of theft. Problem is I don't know if I'd really like spending $1,000,000 for a Rolls Royce and then have it look like a Yugo.
As for having a bright colored camera so you can find it in a cave, I guess you could always build into the camera a system like an automobile remote lock. If you forget where you parked your camera, hit the button and the flash will go off twice and it will honk its horn. If someone tries to run off with it, you hit the panic button and the horn blows and flash goes off. And with the motion sensitive part, it would be great fun to set your camera on top of a fire plug in downtown East St Louis and watch it go off when someone tries to break into it to steal the flash card. The problem is they'd try to get to the card by breaking the lens and going in that way.
bikinkawboy; Oh, give me a break!! Realize, that I deafened this camera because I love it, bring out the child in me... what is really the crowning touch is that they send one along with the real one... the second is made of rubber, you fill it with water and when you take a picture it squirts.
Were you the one who suggested using paint to brighten up a Canon... and revised it to make sure that it was "plastic" compatible paint.. Next you will be telling me that Leica has a $8000 black/white camera!
Regarding RR car! I did have a Chrysler stolen, the fool thought it was a Mercedes since the insignias are similar.
