Delving into my plentiful supply of misty, louring shots, I thought this might be a good candidate for some editing (it's a two-shot merge as described in other threads).

Thank you R.G. for letting me play with your beautiful photo!! I did a little dodge and burn in Elements and also removed the wires. Then I played in Topaz Adjust and Simplify. I tried to bring back some color and make it have a warmer feel, hope you like.

Glad you enjoyed, Angela. You've ramped up the colour quite a bit and managed to avoid having it turn out garish. I never got the hang of doing that with Topaz.

I'm glad you liked my rendition... Topaz filters are very easy to use, just select an effect, use the sliders until you like what you see!

Thanks for giving us another photo to play with. I did a one picture HDR using Aurora (Mac) for the land. Made different one for the Sky and Water. Merged. Added contrast to the island area. Removed power lines with Snapheal Pro. Used some Denoise for sky. Removed a few spots in sky with spot healing brush. As always view in Download to see full effect.

Working from the jpg did an HDR Pseudo -1/+1 Photographic. Using CS5 Isolated the center island, the left foremost hillside and the right foremost hillside on separate layers and sharpened same. I leveled the photo very slightly as I had a feeling it was sloping to the left a slight bit.

Results darkened on upload, see Download for better appearance.

Nice Job SoHillGuy. I keep going back and forth between you download and mine and we have two different looks. Couldn't decide whose I like better.

I would really like to be able to download the dng and work with it but for some reason, the dng won't download for me.
Mistaken it will download, however, PS CS5 will not open the file. Programs raw file system needs an update but Adobe has no updates for CS5.
Addendum: This is strange as I can convert a raw file to dng and CS5 will open it.

Go to your browser and google search for Adobe DNG converter. This is free and there is one for Windows and one for Mac. Hope this works for you. Jim

You gave us a beautiful image to start with R.G. I just cloned out the wires, applied a de-hazing filter to your photo, and tweaked the contrast in the land areas. Hope you like the result.

Here is my effort to improve your already excellent photograph.
I increased the contrast slightly, adjusted highlight to bring out the cloud, applied some sharpening and clarity.
Then I incresed the vibrance slightly to improve colour and finally removed the wires.
Thankyou for allowing me to play with your beautiful photograph.

RG thanks for posting this beautiful image for us to experiment with. Typically I would have warmed it up got some color in the clouds added clarity and contrast. This time I chose to add to the mist, add some emphasis to the clouds without altering the color tones leaving that colder feeling. I added some clarity and contrast to the foreground and brushed in some elements of very subtle light hitting the bushes and various other spots. I reduced overall clarity slightly to give it a bit more painterly/misty feeling. All done in lightroom no presets or add-ons...

You're welcome, Jim-Pops. You're not the only one using the HDR approach. The distance draws you in on download. Thanks for contributing.

Thanks for joining in, SHG. The HDR approach seems to be working wonders with this shot. It seems to me that if a shot is already a bit on the dark side, the thumbnail isn't going to do it any favours. You've managed to bring out a lot to look at in the download.
